Between those two I'd rather have smith, but I'd prefer milsap over both of them. :p

Cousins has been suspended what 5 times this year? C'mon man. Cousins is an awful teammate even his own players called him out saying they have had enough of him. Is smith a mature player........NO, but cousins is arguably the most immature player in the league.

In any case if we are going to argue about who is a better fit in terms of salary then without question i would rather have cousins.

In terms of production and defensive ability i'd rather have smith.

In terms of upside i'd rather have cousins.

There ya go. Anyways i enjoyed the convo with the few that decided to have a civilized and unbiased debate.

I would prefer Cousins because we already have a guy very similar to J.Smith in T.Jones....I will argue that T.jones skillset may even be better than Smith but with the NBA experience I give the edge to Smith. T.Jones in a few years will be a beast and the ROX know this...........man!

If anything good comes from stupidly drafting Royce, it's that Morey will think twice before ever acquiring another problem child. I'd prefer Josh over Cousins for exactly that reason, though neither fill me with overwhelming optimism.

Great summary. #2 is the biggest one. The Rockets could add him, and still have cap room.

I'm on the fence with Cousins. Well, previously I was against him. But it was mostly about his play, not about his head. I know his head still needs work, but his play since his suspension has really made me come around.

He still needs to get a lot more polished and mature. And he hasn't exactly been playing only the top teams in the league.

BUT, in the 10 games since the suspension, he is averaging

    20.2 ppg, 48% fg%, 82% FT%, 12.4 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.7 spg, and 0.6 bpg

Those aren't all-time great numbers but they are clearly top 1-2 center in the league numbers... if he can maintain, against all competition, and keep his head on straight.

The Kings are 6-5 in that stretch by the way.

Now, where it becomes problematic is that Kings are unlikely to trade him, but if they do, they will try and force you to take Salmons back... and his contract sucks.

Asik + Parsons for Cousins + Salmons

... I'd do it but it'd of course be a big risk. Hate Salmons contract, but you'd only be adding $2-$3 million of salary to your cap next year, so again you'd still have room. If you then say signed Millsap in the offseason you'd have Lin, Harden, Millsap, Cousins

...clearly I'd rather have Kevin Love just added to the current group, but doubt that's possible.

I would happily take salmons back in a trade fr cousins, but n way we take on salmons and also give up both parsons and asik...hell no

Also, Cousins will be playing pf for us, not C, so why trade Asik

both are headcases that would split the locker room and fight with whatever coach we have.

you've got to give to get. hard to see the Kings parting with him for Parsons + scrubs/filler, though you never know.

    Parsons + TJones + DMo
    for
    Cousins, Salmons

I guess you're selling the money savings to the Kings, who get out from over $8 million in salary a year..

though conversely from the rockets perspective, now they really are eating into cap room in the offseason.

also, i'm not sold on the Cousins at PF thing. I mean I could go with it, but I don't think it obvious that his game yells PF to you. If he's a PF it's in the Tim Duncan sense.

put both Asik and Cousins in the paint on defense, and thats lockdown D.
On offense, Asik can still stay low for rebounds, while Cousins gets pass near the inside line for set plays.

Morey can try the money saving angle, he is high iq gm from what most say.
And from all the morey fan videos and pictures on this website, he could literally sell fire to satan

lol... if Morey is that good, I say he just focus on Kevin Love.

Morey seems to be looking for true spread 4s more and more. I think it's great, if you have a competent one. Marcus Morris and Patterson don't count. Moreover, if you've got a Duncan-esque 4, then you go that route instead.

It's just that Cousins has a LONG way to go with regards to a mid-range game. See his shot chart and %'s at various distances.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01/shooting/2013/

I still think there's value in having Asik and Cousins on the court at the same time, just not sold on that combo logging 30+ minutes a game.

I'd easily do that trade but I don't know if the Kings would. Maybe if he has just 1 more meltdown...

I agree on the Cousins at PF thing. Tim has strength and finesse He doesn't have an outside game and I don't think that would ever be his strength though I can see him trying if you asked him to. But that would just result in him jacking up some bad/questionable shots and creating/reinforcing bad habits. If you get Cousins, you have to put him in the deep post to play rough with the big boys
