Hamilton should have known what he was in for, regardless of whether he wanted to go thru with taking a life in that manner, he still chose the route of private ownership. Considering he was a founding father, that is very noteworthy on intent of the 2nd admendment.
You shoot them Did one of the victims have a gun at Columbine? It was a gun-free zone so I doubt it. Not sure what point you are trying to make. The point I was making was that you can't guarantee guns won't be in a place so the Rockets Arena question posed is irrelevant since it's impossible.
My mistake then. I really thought I had read posts that regaled us with statistics on baseball bats and hammers and people saying that killers will always find a way to kill. I still think it is curious how lynchings no longer happen though. I'm not exploiting kids. I'm trying to keep kids from getting slaughtered because people have easy access to weapons that can kill lots of people very quickly. If that's exploitation, well then, I'd rather exploit than tacitly and overtly support the means by which kids are killed. An exploited kid is still alive. You mean the quote where he says he's in favor of the state disarming people? At first glance, there's a pretty good argument to be made against my post, but you haven't made it for one of two reasons. Either you don't see it or you do and are smart enough not to raise it because you see where it leads. If the latter, it makes you an even more cynical misanthrope.
Except duels were rarely fought with pistols brought by the duellers. In this case, a box of two duelling pistols were carried in a box across the river by seconds. Hamilton did not own the gun he fired in the duel.
It is exploiting dead kids. You and Obama essentially say 'Either agree with us or you want kids murdered' (Obama even paraded them out yesterday). I don't own a gun and am not even sure the 2nd amendment protects assault rifles but I find your arguments disgusting. If someone thinks the 2nd amendment protects assault rifles that doesn't mean they enjoy seeing dead kids. You mean the Jefferson quote? Where does he say he is in favor of disarming the people? You might stretch it and say he wants rebellious law breakers to be disarmed (who doesn't?).
The shooters traded shots with a uniformed, armed police officer assigned to the school as a resource officer.
You are stating something that I explicitly did not state. Regulation doesn't necessarily mean absolute ban. Not exactly. Firearms encompass a wide range of weapons so while it is recognized as a right like other rights it doesn't mean that restrictions can't be made. Under that view then it would be Constitutional to restrict ownership to only one class of firearms. I used muzzle loaders as an example. Except that Heller is the basis of most current jurisprudence so regarding the Constitution and gun control it is very valid. Leaving aside Heller though there is nothing that the Founders wrote that would prevent regulation of firearms.
So you are going to stand by an incident that was illegal for it's time, note that Hamilton and Burr took steps to skirt the law not try to change it, one which he didn't even want to do and died in horrible agony as a good argument for guns.
The Daily Show last night had a pretty good summary of why the whole "we have enough gun laws, enforce the ones we have" line of crap is total bull****. The reason the gun laws we have can't be enforced is because the NRA and politicians working on their behalf have castrated the ATF. <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:cms:video:thedailyshow.com:422932" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-january-16-2013/there-goes-the-boom">The Daily Show with Jon Stewart</a></b><br/>Get More: <a href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/'>Daily Show Full Episodes</a>,<a href='http://www.indecisionforever.com/'>Political Humor & Satire Blog</a>,<a href='http://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow'>The Daily Show on Facebook</a></p></div></div> <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:cms:video:thedailyshow.com:422933" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-january-16-2013/there-goes-the-boom---atf">The Daily Show with Jon Stewart</a></b><br/>Get More: <a href='http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/'>Daily Show Full Episodes</a>,<a href='http://www.indecisionforever.com/'>Political Humor & Satire Blog</a>,<a href='http://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow'>The Daily Show on Facebook</a></p></div></div>
Yes as I said before it does prevent an absolute ban on firearms. Are you now saying that the 2nd Amendment does allow for an absolute ban?
This should be its own thread. NRA in reality hasn't had the interests of even responsible gun owners at heart for a long time.
"We are writing to urge your support for a ban on the domestic manufacture of military-style assault weapons." -- Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan in a 1994 letter to Congress.
So I carpool wih 3 other guys. 2 of them are repubs and hate Obama (socialist pig). I've come to the conclusion that Republicans are as delusional as it gets and are basically all like texx, basso, etc. They both owns tons of guns, of course. They couldn't stop talking about their tricked out guns the last couple of days. Anyway, they both feel like that Obama is laying the groundwork to basically eventually ban guns period. They talk about how we need these firearms (ARs, etc) to protect ourselves from our own GOVT. Just crazy nonsense. I do admit that these regulations might not affect the true roots of the problem but damn they're are some freakin paranoid *****.
