Milsap could be a good asset in a potential Kevin Love trade.

I don`t really understand trading for Millsap since he will be an UFA... but if we get him for cheap and can already get a verbal commitment from him for a future contract it might be good.

Gortat might be interesting. Let`s say we get him and keep Asik - we could play both about 28 minutes a night. Always have one of them on the court and have them together on the court for 4 minutes. That would keep them fresh and ensure, that we always have a quality 7 footer in the game... but since our best lineup seems to be a small one I don`t know how much sense that would make.

Both trades are not worth it, if we have to give up one of our core four if you ask me. Millsap should be attainable as a FA and Gortat might be nice, but he is far from the missing piece. Smith played well as a backup C, and we play well with a small line up.

whoever wants to take a package of spare parts (PPat/MMo/Royce/GSmith) (plus maybe DMo OR TJones) - cool.... if Milsap is too expensive as a FA - opens up some cap room....

    My thoughts on Marcin Gortat:

    1) Excellent, excellent player. Can absolutely play alongside Omer Asik, and will play alongside Asik, if acquired.

    2) Very difficult for me to believe that Houston is considering trading Asik for Gortat. It should be obvious that Daryl Morey would like both dudes.

    3) Phoenix would love for somebody to bail them out on one of their two bad longterm contracts (Michael Beasley, Channing Frye) but that team will not be Houston.

    4) Phoenix is a pretty bad team with no real hope of contending either this season or next season. Gortat isn't as young as you might think; he turns 29 (!) in just over a month. So by the time they are MAYBE halfway decent again, Gortat will be past his prime. Makes a ton of sense to trade him sooner rather than later, and for as many prospects/picks as possible. This is why it's great to stockpile assets.

    5) Houston is presumably genuinely interested in Gortat; however, talking to Phoenix about Gortat may well lead to the Suns agreeing to the package that Houston is offering Utah for Paul Millsap. So there is a dual purpose here, in other words. Houston is improving its leverage with Utah in the chase for Millsap. Houston is communicating to Utah that it has made what it feels is its best offer and is ready to move on.

    6) Houston may be using its cap space to squeeze a first round pick from a team looking to avoid the 2012-13 luxury tax penalty (probably Chicago, but there are other teams looking to dodge the tax, or at least reduce their penalty). In this scenario, the trade would evolve into a three-team deal (really, two two-team deals occurring simultaenously. Houston would presumably package this draft pick with Patrick Patterson and either Donatas Motiejunas, Terrence Jones, or Greg Smith for Mortat or Millsap.

    7) Gortat has an excellent salary and is a classic Morey/Moneyball player, as he provides outstanding bang for one's buck. He makes $7.3 mil in 2012-13, $7.7 mil next year, and then he's an unrestricted free agent.

    8) It should be worth pointing out here (I think many fans fail to understand this concept for some reason) that a year and a half of Gortat under team control is not as valuable as 2+ years of Gortat under team control. The fact that Gortat is only going to be under team control (in the form of his current contract) for another year and a half obviously diminishes his trade value. Phoenix could've gotten more for him this past summer, for this reason, and they will get less for him this upcoming summer, for this reason. And even less at the 2014 February trade deadline. So trading him, if you're Phoenix, is an extremely logical move.

Sample Gortat trade (similar to my sample Millsap trade from a few days ago):

Patrick Patterson, Donatas Motiejunas, Chicago's 2013 (lottery-protected) first round pick, and Richard Hamilton (basically an expiring contract, for all intents and purposes) to Phoenix; Jermaine O'Neal (minimum salary, expiring contract) to Chicago; Marcin Gortat and Sebastian Telfair (expiring contract) to Houston

As Houston has no use for Telfair, obviously they'd attempt to ship him off for a second round pick, if possible, although I have a very difficult time believing that anyone would want to give up even that for this guy. Pretty decent chance Houston would waive him.

Interestingly, if Houston were to make this deal, they'd still be able to make a play this summer, or even at this year's trade deadline, for Paul Millsap, as well. A three-man big man rotation (i.e., PF & C) of Asik, Gortat, and Millsap would really be outstanding, especially considering who your other three starters are. That team would be a championship contender in 2013-14. Hell, it would be a championship contender in 2012-13, for that matter.

If Hamilton would end up in Phoenix.... why wouldn't they just take the draft pick themselves and try to get more for Gortat?

One thing about Marcin Gortat is that he can actually catch a pass and finish. Asik has been a little frustrating lately because he can't catch a pass and sometimes, he tries to score but instead just chunking one up at the backboard.

One thing for sure, the Rockets need more offense to help out Harden. Right now, Delfino, Parsons and Lin are not enough firepower.

Exactly. We need a big that can finish strong in the paint. We have two of the best pick and roll guys in Harden and Lin. Someone like Gortat setting picks for both those guys will tremendously put so much pressure on opponent's defense.

Asik is a good center for a team like Chicago that plays great team defense and slows things down. But for an up tempo team that wants to spread things out he kills us offensively.

He contributes nothing to the PnR. Because Asiks guy can just freelance and clog the paint Harden has had to resort to more iso play than he would like and Asik negates the only thing Lin is elite at which is getting into the paint.

Gortat fits perfectly and he can play C for us not PF. Playing Asik and Gortat together would be a disaster. Asik is getting benched in favor of Greg Smith anyway so what do we have to lose.

Dmo, Aldrich, Greg Smith, NY 2nds for Gortat and Brown

They can tank, cut payroll, and get prospects while we get an actual p&r guy to pair with Harden and Lin while still being players in the 2014 fa class.

You just look at a box score and sum up a players worth? Who are you the GM for the Lakers?

Gortat was 15.4/10/1.5 last year when he had Nash feeding him. This year he has been marginalized so his production went down. This is why so many teams are pursuing him now. it reflects his high value.

Asik has had a ridiculous amount of opportunities to score close to the basket this year with feeds from Lin and Harden. But his true contribution on offense is probably negative when you consider how his defender can just clog the paint.

Trading dmo is an awful idea unless you are packaging him in a deal for Kevin love.

I remember Gortat playing at PF alongside Dwight.

Not saying Asik is anyway near Dwight, but thinking of the Polish Hammer and the Turkish Destroyer on the same team.
Yes, spacing might be an issue, but at least it gives Rox a low post threat.
