If we were to make a change at QB I would move for Seattle Matt Flynn. He fits the system and he has shown what he can do in a similar offense in Green Bay. Any thoughts?
In an ideal world, ignoring contract, sure. If you could dump Schaub's contract then why not? But (1) you can't do that unless you can dump Schaub's contract, and (2) even then it wouldn't be a permanent long-time solution. Flynn is clearly not as good as Wilson. granted, Wilson was ridiculously great as a rookie QB, but the goal should ultimately be to get a Wilson level QB, not a Flynn level QB.
Matt Flynn is quite unproven. If the Texans move on from Schaub, it would have to be for someone proven to be better, or somebody very young. Both scenarios are extremely unlikely.
In Schaub's first playoff taste...he went 1-1...he needs to understand that in order for this team to go any where we need him to get better Matt Flynn was supposed to be the starter...but when the 2nd stringer plays better than you with the starters...coaches notice those kinda things...Flynn is not thhe answer
#1) Their offense isn't similar to ours at all #2) We want to bring in a guy who couldn't beat out a rookie in training camp? (not to say Russell Wilson isn't good, but he's still a rookie) #3) C'mon, IF, we're going to make a change at qb then we need to go for someone who has a much higher ceiling than Matt Flynn... do people just grab names out of mid-air and think, hey what about Alex Smith, hey it's time to give Vince Young a call, hey let's do Romo for Schaub, let's make a call to the Jets, Tim Tebow's a good fit for our offense....gimme a break....
Calling all NFC West 2nd string Quarterbacks! Ha Calling you Kellen Clemens! (Wait, you were already here.) Calling you John Skelton, Kevin Kolb, Ryan Lindley, Brian Hoyer, or whoever the 2nd string guy is! Calling you Alex Smith! Calling you Matt Flynn!
Not to say Matt Flynn is the answer, but this logic doesn't make sense to me. All this tells us is that Flynn isn't as good as Wilson. Pete Carroll picked up both of those guys. It seems people are trying to argue that he knew what he was doing picking up Wilson but had no idea what he was doing trading for Flynn.
Matt Flynn was horrendous in the preseason. Horrible. Forget who the competition was. They were going to hand him the job if he could remotely prove himself a top 30 NFL QB. He couldn't even come close to it, and they were forced to start looking harder at other options No way in hell
Flynn could be good but he's proven less than Kolb and he also got beat out by a rookie who wasn't as good as Schaub was when he started the season.
Schaub has guaranteed money coming to him the next two years and he has four years remaining on his contract. Schaub has a great handle on the offense. Let me put it to you this way.... The Texans are in bed with Schaub, the coaching staff loves Schaub. There will be no starting quarterback changes in the next two years. In fact the rest of the league believes he is one of the best and he was selected for another Pro Bowl. He is the third best quarterback in the AFC behind Brady and Manning. The Texans are making no changes whatsoever to their quarterback position. Be Happy your not in one of these situations. Buffalo- Fitzpatrick Jets- Sanchez Miami- Tannehill Baltimore- Flacco Pittsburg- Roethlisberger Cincinnati- Dalton Cleveland- Weeden Jacksonville- Gabbert Colts- Luck Titans- Hasselbeck/Locker Chiefs- Quinn/Cassel San Diego- Rivers Oakland- Palmer
This is what I'm complaining about. Instead of continuing the discussion and bringing up a possible pickup, they just HAVE TO PUT HIS NAME up on top... a new thread... then you can't keep up with these discussions. Suddenly they're all just 18 or 13 answer threads.
HUH? Why would you be happy to not be in Baltimore or Pittsburgh's situation? (Elite teams, with a very good and an elite QB. Also-yes the Steelers are an elite team despite missing the playoffs this season) Also, why would you not want to be Miami's situation with Tannehill? (Looks so far like a solid pick). Why would you not want to be the Colt's situation with Luck??? That one speaks for itself as to why one would want to be in that situation. I don't think Dalton has proven himself to be a crap qb like Gabbert or a young QB with no signs of improvement. Not sure why you included those teams or QB's in here but hopefully I misread/misunderstood your post.
Also, if you TRULY believe he is the 3rd best QB in the AFC(Over Flacco and Roethlisberger) then I worry about you. He won't even be the best QB in his division next season(Andrew Luck will take that title over next season imo). That's not saying Schaubwob won't be fine and have a good season, just saying let's realize what he is.
Schaub's performance was better than all of those quarterbacks this year. Flacco has a stronger arm, but struggles with accuracy. Luck had a strong rookie season and racked up completion yards, but threw way too many interceptions. In a couple of years I believe that Luck will become one of the better QB's in the league. Roethlisberger was injured most of the season and I would not be very optimistic about his future.
