What do we need in a QB?

    Let's build our IDEAL Quarterback

    1. Bigger Arm - The QB needs to be able to throw much further to stretch the field.
    2. Mobility - Not necessarily Cam Newton but the ability to escape the pocket
    3. Pocket Prescense - feels the pressure and know when to throw the ball away
    4. Touch/Accuracy - ability to make all the throws with appropriate amount of touch on them
    5. Take Care of the ball and play smart.

    Did I leave anything out?

    HOW DO WE GET ONE?

First we need to answer these questions:
How many of those things CAN BE TAUGHT?
Big Arm/ Mobility cannot be taught - so when we draft - draft for that
Kubiak should be able to teach the rest . .. right? That is his specialty right?
    CAN YATES BE TAUGHT?
I think we need to see what Yates can do. He has a good arm and he seemed mobile enough
I don't think we should give up on him yet. . . esp if we cannot draft a good QB

There is no question Schaub will be here for at least another year if not more. Kubes loves him and McNair loves Kubes.

The Good ole boy circle jerk is complete.

It's like the Rockets trying to get a superstar, great QB's aren't readily available.

    Can they be developed?
    I mean . . . draft for skillset
Esp since we know Schuab is here for at least 2 more years
    and
spend that time developing the QB

I think they can be developed to an extent, but they are who they are.

Do you think Brady would have sucked if he was on a different team? I don't think so. Do you think Carr would have been awesome on the Patriots? I don't think so.

And it's not a given that Schaub is here for 2 years, not if we have a chance to get a good QB, or ended up with a Kaepernick situation.

Stop trying to build a perfect QB.

Simply name me an available QB who is unquestionably better than Matt Schaub, not just in overall playing ability, but account for him having to learn this offense and get comfortable with the players.

Then find me a sensible way to get that QB on this team.

It isn't easy. Schaub's the guy unless Yates improves, deal with it.

If Bledsoe doesn't go down . . . . does Brady get a snifff at the starting spot???
If he is never given the opportunity . . .are we even talking about him now?

I think folks understand finding a great signal caller is difficult. The whole league wants a great signal caller.

What the Texans need to do is just bring some talent in that they think they can develop while Schaub starts. Schaub is the guy. There is very little chance he is not the guy to start next season. The team just doesn't have a high promise prospect behind him. They need to at least give themselves a chance of stumbling onto a better QB.

as soon as the perfect qb loses in a post season, which they tend to do.
we will be in search of the next one. give me the perfect defense, I'll take my chances.

    MAN!

    Quit it with these threads!!!

What's your next one going to be "Should we look for a new Punters' Coach?!?!?"

SCHAUB's first two playoff starts, he doesn't do a stellar job, but he's learned from this. Give the guy a break. He can't be the entire team, he can't go and tackle Brady.

I think Texans will shock everyone in the offseason and get Tebow in the offseason. He just fits with the good ole boy mentality. Would give Schaub some pressure to be better or the chants will start.

If Morey grew up as a football fan instead of a basketball fan, and became the Texans GM, he would probably either (A) sign/trade for the flawed but star level production QB or (B) try to find a capable, system fitted game managing QB cheaply so he can spend tons of money elsewhere. Cheap QBs likely comes in the form of a draft pick after doing tons of scouting/stat to find the right one.

Not sure if he succeeds or fails. Maybe he gets Brees, maybe Cutler. Maybe he drafts Weedon. Maybe Russell Wilson. But paying someone like a Matt Schaub top-10 QB money is probably not Morey's MO. He's certainly an all-or-nothing type of GM.

from what I have seen of Chase Daniel I wouldn't mind kicking the tires in FA. haven't heard any real buzz surrounding him, so I imagine he wouldn't break the bank.

might provide an under the radar guy who could push Schaub for the starting spot.

I dont think you need the perfect QB...Schaub's problem is he lacks mobility AND arm strength. It's tough to lack both. Guys like Peyton and Favre were less mobile over the years, but still had a cannon. The guys who are really mobile may not always be accurate, but still can fling it.

If Matt is staying, I think they need to re-build Matt's body from the ground up this off season. He's not exactly in great shape. There has to be some untapped athletic potential in him, even at his age. Make sure every thing is in sync and strong.

    I don't think you re-build Matt.

    You re-tool the offense.

Run it at a faster pace. Keep the defense off balance.

Matt can run the hurry-up. He can make quick timing throws. In fact, this plays to his BIGGEST strength (decision making and accuracy).

The OL and running game will have to adjust, but I give them a chance to make it work.

If Matt fails, you have a very convenient reason to replace him.

Have you noticed how very little Matt goes into the shotgun?

This is an absolute killer for a QB that is a total statue like him.

Getting under center, especially with an empty backfield, makes him a sitting duck.

The plays take too long to develop, too.

It's time for Kubiak to bring his offense into the 21st century. His 1997 mind-set isn't going to cut it anymore.

Let Arian and Tate loose on some draw plays out of the gun, involve them in the passing game more.

    INNOVATE, DAMN IT :(

Russel Wilson and kaepernick were drafted in 2nd and third round last two drafts. You have to take a chance on a low profile QB that could have great potential and hope you hit the jackpot. Not many Luck or RGIII around.
