And now I remember why I stopped coming to this thread. Is 2k13 different from 2k12 rules where all trades had to be realistic???

Paul Milsap is within reach. If the Jazz keep this pace we should be able to make a trade for him. My guess is it would take trading them Motiejunas to make it happen though.

Agreed. Expect the Jazz to cash in on him right at the trade deadline and we all know the Rockets is one of those teams in need of a solid PF and willing to take on his expiring contract for some of their young players. The Jazz can't afford to be picky as well. I don't see Utah just letting Millsap leave for free agency without getting anything in return.

Millsap's their best player. Sure they have two young bigs, but there are 96 PF/C minutes per game, and Millsap can play some SF too. If they can't get anything good, why wouldn't they just wait for July 1 and try to sign him? He might choose to leave, but it's worth the risk. If anything, they could trade him next midseason. Look at the rumored offers for Gay. Millsap's better than Gay. Even if you overpay him a little, he'd still be possible to trade, and for more than just a decent prospect like Donatas. In the meantime, they wouldn't have to give up on this season.

    Yep, that about seals it.

Unless TheRocketDouche----er, Guy----is just making up the Granger stuff. It's his strength. But this does have a ring of truth to it.

Surprised Morey's been pursuing him so aggressively; also surprised Pacers are really resisting trading Granger. With the emergence of Paul George, you would think it would be a no brainer to get some value for Granger, but maybe they think he would be useful during a deep a playoff run.

While Millsap (as well as all the other FA PF's out there) may well be an upgrade over the current stable of PF's, the question is if he's worth the max, because the only reason to trade for Millsap (or Josh Smith, or Jefferson, etc.) is only if you want to give them a max Bird contract (paying them more per year than you're paying Harden). Otherwise, you can just sign them as an unrestricted free agent in the offseason instead of trading for them.

A player may be good at one price, but bad at another. A max contract for Millsap starts at close to $17M next year, and then goes up by 7.5% each year with bird rights (if you traded for him) or goes up by 4.5% each year (no bird rights, if you just sign him in the off-season FA market). So it's not like next year, you'll be paying him at the $8.6M that he's making this year. IF you want to pay him less than $17M next year, there's no need to trade for him, just offer him a free agent contract if you don't think you'll get outbid.

This max contract, whether Millsap, J.Smoove, whoever, had better be the 2nd star and final piece to the championship, and not just someone to make the Rockets into a mediocre treadmill team, if you're going to give him a max contract. Because this will pretty much use up all the cap space going forward (especially considering the upcoming raises for Chandler Parsons and others in a couple of years).

If you don't think these guys are worth a max contract and the last bit of cap-space that the Rockets have for a future superstar, then just try to sign them with a less than bird rights max contract in the off-season, without trading for them. There's no advantage to trading for Millsap if you're not going to give him a max bird rights contract (17M+7.5% raise per yr). Especially when you have the cap space (or can create it) to give him a max non-bird rights contract (17M + 4.5% raise per yr) without trading for him.

You'll have to look at the various soon-to-be free agents like Millsap, J.Smoove, etc., and see if it's worth giving them a max contract or saving cap room for the summer 2014 off-season. And if you don't think the current free agents are worth a max contract, or if you think you can get them with a non-bird max contract (or less than max) offer using just cap space, then there's no need to trade for them.

You can offer them a max non-bird contract this summer without trading for them. The trade assets could be used instead to get picks and free up space.

They're probably in a no-hurry mode. See if the offers improve, while thinking, Let's see how Danny plays with the team when he gets back.

Depends how badly we want to make the playoffs now, and/or put together the team we want to get that chemistry going for the long-term.

Not surprised. Morey likely lowballing. Pacers got plenty of time to make decision. Don't even have to do it at the deadline. Can still get value for him in offseason.
