Bottom line, we have to make up for all our losses and more by the draft. That's how good teams continually be good.
You can't be serious? Restructure and/or trade him. No, I think our only missing real pieces this year were Cushing, a #2 WR (which we may have) and a franchise QB. We need to bet the farm on someone who can be elite. Cushing was an absolutely tragic loss for us.
Schaub makes way too much money to be sitting on the bench. We could use that money on other positions like the o-line, keeping Smith, and resigning Casey and Quin. But the problem is, we need to completely gamble on a rookie QB being able to lead us to the SuperBowl. And if there was a rookie elite QB, we are not likely to get him with pick 27.... If we can trade Schaub for picks, then I am all for it. Hell, the Bengals got a nice haul for Carson Palmer. Hopefully we will trade him for some draft picks.
What kinda offers do you think we can get for Daniels??? that would be a trade i'd be willing to do... First spend money on the Right side of the line... May have to cut Smith, Cody, Walter in order to retain Casey, Quinn... Spend the rest of the cash on getting a legit number 2...and then draft accordingly...
If I'm Rick Smith, I see if I can squeeze a 4th or 5th rounder for Daniels. Casey is not going to be a big ticket item. Quin will hurt a little, though. I'm not ready to declare the Jones/Brooks experiment a failure, but Newton is clearly just a warm body and an upgrade IS possible there. Posey's injury is killer, because he was our #2 in waiting... I really don't want to blow a high pick on a WR.
Keep Casey, Quin, Dobbins. Walter, A. Smith, OD, cap casualties I'd take a mid-round for A. Smith. Anything higher for Daniels. Mercilus makes Barwin expendable. Draft upgrades Cody, Butler, Etc Draft 1. WR 2. NT/DE/OLB 3. NT/DE/OLB 4. SS/FS 4. RT/RG (Mario Compensation) 5. TE/FB 6. RT/RG
You cant just cut half the team due to cap casualties. You cannot simply replace a handful of quality players like smith through the draft. They have to retain what they can. Letting go of Smith and Quin would be straight up DUMB
james casey. him dropping that touchdown in the first possession was as big as Jacoby Jones fumble last year--instant points.
As do all of our WRs except for Andre. Even our TE's are nothing special this year. Daniels is good, but slow.
"All of the Texans receivers(outside of AJ) suck." Well, why is that? Why haven't they developed any? How many years are we going on now saying we need another number two, we need someone opposite AJ, we need a "potential replacement" for AJ, so on and so forth about needing or bringing in another receiver. Why hasn't Matt made them better? And all this talk of drafting a receiver. You want some receivers, they better be as "sure fire" as can get, guys with obvious talent. They ain't coming here to get developed and Matt doesn't make those around him better. Hell, it seems they're more worried about if the WR can block than actually play WR.
Jacoby did not suck outside of punt returns. Walter did not suck when he was younger. Daniels doesn't suck. The new guys we drafted- Posey, Keyshawn, and LeStar, just plain suck for the most part. They combined for less than 20 catches this year.
Let Barwin go for sure...any street FA would have been as productive as him this season. I just cant believe that Barwin played 18 games and was essentially worthless.
One more rant, if you will - enough about getting a "real" FB. They let Leach go, they let Vickers go, two "true" fullbacks. They had Moran Norris, a "true" fullback, who was also let go. Seems like they could not care less about having a "true fullback". Edit: And I forgot about Tyler Clutts, a "true" fullback on the roster that they didn't use. (Came from Chicago for Sherrick McManis.)
