Anyone else on the board running the full or the half? This will be my first full and I am almost half way through my training.

I'm sure I'll do another one here one year, but not 2013 - doing Disney instead.

You've got a rock solid marathon for your first - flat single loop through good neighborhoods, well supported with spectators for most stretches (a few dead spots - most notably when you leave West U for West Park and S Post Oak), and usually nice cool weather.

Don't be shy demanding your friends/family wake up and support you along the course - that's absolutely the best thing you can do to help yourself on race day. All by yourself, it's tough to push through the last 4-8 miles. Familiar faces force you to fake it til you make it.

I am 42 years old and I have been running for about a year and a half. I ran the San Antonio Rock and Roll half last year. I wanted to run a full and Houston looked better. The training is time consuming, 4 months at 4 days a week for is hard trying to find the time. Yvr

Running the half this year but have run Houston three times before. You might consider running with a pace team if you are not sure how fast to go. Also there are many good running clubs and training groups where you can get great advice from experienced runners who love to talk running. Good luck and pray to the running gods for good weather. :)

I have trained alone, it's suits my schedule. I don't live in Houston, we do have a couple of running clubs here, but I like my schedule. I know when I did my half last year I saw a couple of pace signs, so maybe I can find one then.

Happening right now. My sister is doing the full marathon. Everyone got rained on for the first hour. It's pretty nasty and cold out there.

But seeing all the people doing this has made me want to at least do a half marathon. Maybe next year.

I ran it last year. First time running an marathon in Houston for me. I was pleasantly surprised by all the show of support from locals.

I worked contract for Chevron a few years ago, and it was a huge deal for them... they took it really seriously with funds, planning and employee volunteering. Was pretty cool to see.

I am officially a marathoner. 4 hours 58 minutes. In the past three years I beat cancer, lost 120 lbs, ran 13. 1 and now 26.2.

Did it. Ran a half oct 2012 and my time qualified for the Houston Marathon so I said what the hell and signed up and qualified.

Long story short, I haven't ran since November and quit training and running 2 months out of the marathon but I said whatever my goal is just to finish now. Showed up, got rained on for the first 5 miles, ran with wet socks, shoes, and clothes the whole 26.2 but finished. The last 8 miles sucked, but there's lots of motivation on the course. As I'm typing this now I'm sore as hell and people are telling me ill be sore for the rest of the week.

Oh well, next one ill keep up with the training. Good experience though even with the weather.
