Our 3rd down struggles are largely a product of crappy production on 1st and 2nd down. In the first half, it was run for no gain, incomplete pass, 3rd and long. Most teams aren't going to be too productive on 3rd and long. You need to gain yards on 1st and 2nd down so that you're facing 3rd and 4 or less.
When this offense is clicking, it shouldn't have to rely on Schaub to make spectacular plays. Since we saw a lot of that needed... clearly shows you that this offense was not executing like it should have been. If we need that sort of heroics, Schaub is not the QB for this team... if we require an accurate no-mistake QB that can make the right decision on which open reciever to throw to, on an offense that can move the ball at will on the ground and with play-action, that's the role Schaub can relish in.
GB was thought to win it all..Seahawks lost on a clutch kick by Bryant.. the Ravens were expected to get toasted in Denver...and the Texans were expected to get shellacked in NE... Only one of those things happened...with a definitive certainty..
Good season, terrible ending... not a good feeling. It will be interesting to see what change comes from this.
Our last really good game, one where we actually looked like a contender, was in week 7. That was almost 3 full months ago. This team was never as good as their record indicated and unless they make some serious moves, they're not getting close to 12 wins next year. May not even win the division.
To be a houston sports fan kubiak needs to go and schaub needs to go but they wont...more years of this heartbreak.
Casey's dropped td pass...4 points. Schaub's dumb throw...seven points at least 3, Ruud covering a speedy running back on 3rd downs...ball game.
Today, Kube was forced to be less conservative. I'm afraid he only did it because he wanted to keep his job which he will now. If he was like this earlier in the season we would have been the number 1 seed. We are stuck with this loser.
Definitely need to fix the right side of the O-line. A line with 3 pro bowlers (and one all pro) shouldn't be this medicore and unpredictable. Clearly they were never cohesive as a unit with the changes from last off-season, and it finally caught up to them as the season ended. Get back to opening holes on the running game, with the ability to have both Foster and Tate eat up yards... then figure out what to do about the passing game as needed. Something above average has to come out of Posey/Jean/Martin otherwise they are all wasted roster spots.
Blame Schaub all y'all want. He didn't drop passes in the end zone and for first downs. He didn't give up 41 points. They scored 28 in a playoff game. The defense is to blame in this one. Can't even blame Marciano. The defense was not prepared. This is on them.
At the end of the day, sure there were plays left on the field....but the Texans are not better than Patriots....and we never will be if we don't upgrade our QB.
Basically when Casey dropped a TD. Still should be able to overcome that sort of gaffe. Just no consistency from the offense throughout the second half of the season.
