I was thinking it helped both teams out in a way. The Lakers finally get rid of Gasol and now have $13 million in expiring contracts. With the loss of Hill and the lack of healthy bigs, I think Gooden would be a nice band-aid for the short-term. Dalembert would provide the Lakers with a proven shot-blocker and defender. I personally think Udrih would be a much better back-up then either Duhon or Morris. Milwaukee gets an all-star quality big man who provides some veteran leadership. The Bucks are at the tail-end of the playoff seeding. Gasol could help push them to making a run at winning the division. Not to mention they have the chance to pair either Jennings or Ellis (whoever they keep) with him to keep the Bucks competitive in the future. Blake replaces Udrih's role.
Yea, I'm with you- not a bad haul for Gasol given the Lakers position. I think it depends what Milwaukee plans on doing w Jennings and Ellis. The bucks don't have any real money on the books except Ilyasova for the next few years. They are financially fairly well set up. If they were to resign both: Jennings Ellis Ilyasova Gasol SANDERS! Not awful.
You have to decide, more important keeping pierce or george... but, perfectly pierce expires when george is due for a raise... let pierce walk at the end of his contract and give george his place in the starting 5... if you resign millsap, it costs the same as resigning west this.offaeason, so its a wash cap wise, but much better production... That team can push miami easily(they pushed to 7 as currently constructed)... your talkin about seriouslu competeting this year and next with pierce, and than having an expiring to resign george... It works perfect for boston also because they get granger who is soo similiar to pierce but also gain a 2nd... if they could flip garnett to a team, say toronto for bargs, it would help thier rebuild/retool alot...
Gooden would compromise the Lakers' 2014 free agency plans, not worth it. And overall, these guys are all past 30 backups, none of them is a great shooter or perimeter defender or a great athlete, those are the Lakers biggest needs.
I just don't understand why either teams does this, especially Boston. Boston gives up the best player in pierce (even if Granger was healthy) and the best young prospect in Avery Bradley. This goes back to folks overvaluing 1st round picks. Avery Bradley is the exact type of player you hope to nab in the draft.
I think Millsap will be more expensive than West. If not, it's a nobrainer. But I think there's going to be some 4-5 mil / year difference because of Millsap's health, youth, and overall he's a bit better. I'd be quite confident with the Pacers ability to keep both Pierce and West. With Millsap I'm not sure, but maybe it's possible.
The trade has to do with renting pierce for two years and then have his expiring to resign george... Tjey dont want both back at that time, they have him for his cap space expiring... millsap is 1-2 mill more per... hes the upgrade worth letting pierce expire when hes over age...
Boston is ready to move on and rebuild/retool... pierce is getting older and might as well capture his tradr value... they like avery but all he is is a solid backup/roleplayer, besides they hqve rondo in thw foreseen future... they trade an old player for a young core building player... while indy geta the experienced leader and clutch shooter...
I'm talking about Garnett's no-trade clause. Danny Ainge is not a very sentimental GM. If he could rebuild his team by getting similar younger pieces, I suspect he'd do it.
I suspect the same... I yhink he would trade rondo, pierce and garnett with no qualms... garnetts clause is.dificult, but if he sees ainge is rebuilding he might be open to beimg traded for one last hurrah on a contender...
I think Garnett would rather retire. He already said that he's going to consider retirement after each season from now on. After all the "I've erased Ray Allen's number" and "I'm going to retire a Celtic" talks, I don't think he'd want to chase a title elsewhere.
Yea i guess so... but still even garnetts retiring would help boston out moving forward, they postponed the dismantling of the big3 for far too long... If the pierce granger trade were to happen along with garnett retiring and ray allen already moved on, you have finally moved on from that era and officially start the.rondo era... With pierce and garnett gone you have two scenarios a) rondo increases his scoring and takes the next step in his developement as a star or b) he stays the same.or gets worse and they think about a total rebuild... Either way they need to change it up and its time for them to get crafty...
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ad25cmb Brooklyn sends a first and 2nd round pick to Sacramento. Sacramento gets the pick (obviously) and trades one bad contract for another, slightly better one. Plus, they get value on Evans- who is likely on his way out anyway. Suns dump a disgruntled player for a shooting guard and a player who will at least be able to be a spark plug off the bench. Nets get a solid backup in Hayes, and can play Brook at the 4 with Gortat and Hayes at the 5. I'm also considering the possibility of the Suns trading Beasley for Garcia- as I think both could benefit from a change of scenery, but there is a concern that Beasley and Cousins could only cause trouble together. Thoughts?
It's interesting. I think Sacramento and Phoenix would need a bit more. But the Nets have a ton of picks and Marshon Brooks and could probably find a way to take another small-ish bad contract, so it's do-able. I think the Nets would like this even if they had to give a few more assets. Their bench has no low post D. Gortat and Chuck instantly solve that. They could start Lopez-Gortat but mostly play them apart. Also, Gortat would be a great trade asset for the future. Like, I think Boston would give Bradley+Sullinger+Lee for him. Portland would probably give Matthews+Leonard. And so on.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=bfp38dw Boston out - pierce/avery Boston in - gay/augustin Indiana out - granger/augustin Indiana in - pierce/avery Memphis out - gay Memphis in - granger I tried thinkin where picks could or should fit in or where to be sent but it jus seems so even to me... Boston would get seemingly good value for pierce even tho his stock is low... gay could be part of thier next core and augustin is a 3.5 expiring... Indiana gains pierces clutchness, experience, toughness, intensity and leadership along with averys defense to an already stout d... Memphis gets a perfect fit and cuts 3 more mill in salary and likely best offer they could get for gay...
^ give. I like it. I don't know who would say no. I guess Boston would be the most likely, it's hard to know what they see in Bradley (do they think he's a Tony Allen of 1/2 guards or something much more?). Also, they are over tax now and they add a little bit of money. But who knows. It seems about fair. Memphis would probably want to see Granger play for a couple weeks. From Indiana point of view, I wouldn't hesitate to add a pick or asset if necessary. Even a couple picks. Also, since the last time you proposed a similar trade, David West came down to Earth a little. So it looks even more likely that the Pacers would be able to to re-sign all of West/Pierce/George. Basically, I'd love that trade to happen.
Also, in case Bradley is the deal breaker, I wouldn't mind C-Lee instead. I think the Pacers could afford it. C-Lee is from Indiana, too. I always liked him and wanted us to sign him this summer.
