Well I am glad I read this thread as this has turned out, ahem, interesting and congrats Lil Pun; too bad this weird feud between Batman and texxx has overshadowed your news.
I was INVITED to Batman Jones' house. He posted his address for me to come over. How else would I have known where he lived? I showed up, sat there and waited for Bats, and he never came out. If he's going to invite me over to discuss marriage, I'll gladly take him up on it. We would have had a reasoned discussion, and I would have even picked up the tab at Spanish Flowers (right around the corner from his house).
Don't be a dick. Also, that's the heights, which is pretty much the most expensive land in Houston right now. Those smallish homes built in the 1950s are worth $250,000 or more in many cases.
Sadly you are incorrect. I've been looking in that area for a few years now. http://search.har.com/engine/1200-24th-St-Houston-TX-77009_HAR95914112.htm http://search.har.com/engine/1202-E-26th-St-Houston-TX-77009_HAR82197234.htm These houses are in the same ZIP and about a mile away. The heights has some of the most expensive square footage in Houston. It also seems to get more expensive in the Heights the closer to I-10 you get, these places are closer to 610. EDIT - By the way, tax records for that address show a value of $258,000, which is generally UNDERVALUED if they contest their taxes. $135,200 is just the land value. It is an 1100 square foot house built in 1928, for $234 a square foot! You can look it up as well, but I'm not going to link it. TL,DR - The Heights is effing expensive (and still rising).
After googling the address given in BMJ previous post, I realize I live 8 minutes away from him, and Bigtexx I believe from previous posts lives in a condo right around where I live (wash ave near TQLA). Me and BMJ have gotten into it about him being a vegan, and my off color remarks about them (being in the industry, it was a joke my friend). Maybe instead of Spanish flowers we should all go to Radical Eats, a vegan tex-mex restaurant? BTW I am 28, about to married in 3 months (been together for 5 years), and she is my best friend, and I can't imagine not spending our lives together.
Not the best decisions by BJ or Texx. I'm amused, but a lot more disturbed. Lot of lines that don't need crossing in here. You're both grown men, so whatever. Congrats to pun for getting the question popped. It's also about the kid too. Other kids can be little ****s about that kind of stuff. /judgey preachiness Women may feel more empowered, but they have needs just like men. I don't really feel sorry for people who make the wrong decisions again and again expect to win by flipping 180 on their expectations. We're all dealt with the paradox of choice. What it means is that we can stop treating people and potential life partners as products to consume and brag about to others about The Experience. If you're ever considering rolling along a little brat, I'd get that count checked out. Pass it off as some health exam for insurance purposes or something. It's pretty morbid. I've seen and read the pain and delays after conception hurdles starts happening though. People don't really think about the events leading before it since the whole causes are generally not your doing outside of getting older. I can't think of that situation unless I somehow end up divorced w/ children and expect the same sympathy. Hypocritical? I don't give a crap. The circumstances do matter. It's not a solid rule, but I'm not expecting that compromise anytime soon. I know what you mean though and a lot of things that come with it. They could be better people after the fact of having kid(s). It'd just be too grating for my personality and neuroses.
Take your own advice. I said nothing about home values, that place is pretty close to a high crime area. Robberies, street walkers, drug dealers etc..
You found it admiroworthy as you claimed 1/10th of it would be something to be proud of. There's no need to backtrack on your admiration and ignorance. But you need to keep things in perspective - all kinds of people make up a team. You have a few superstars, a lot of role players, and many more towel boys like Shroopy... just hanging in there. Some people can paint. Some people can sing. I just happen to be someone who women love - is that a crime? Ha ah ha. Of course it isn't. But when my reality falls so far away from the sexually frustrated guy in his mid 30s with no prospects, you only see bitterness from people projecting their own insecurities. Naturally that's what people bond over in the Hangout - and it's quite sad to see. So pardon me if I've taken it upon myself to lead you all to a higher plane - and take a peek at the promised land.
Houston isn't NYC or LA. There's no advantage in paying a higher premium for a small place as opposed to a 10-11,000 sq ft estate on Memorial.
It all just boils down to me being a selfish ******* really. I guess if/when I find the right one I'll know, because I won't want to be a selfish *******. Either way, nearly every person in my life who has been married has been divorced. I'd rather wait and hopefully get it right the first time. Take my own advice? I didn't call someone out saying they lived in a ****ty neighborhood. Obviously you've never spent any time in The Heights, it is awesome. Crime is high EVERYWHERE inside the loop, heck almost anywhere inside of Beltway. That's the joys of living in the city, and why I have my CHL. You can have a brand new $300,000 house across the street from a crack-house. The good news is due to young professionals moving back in to town, this is becoming less and less of an issue as time goes by. Have you been to the 5th Ward lately? Yes there is, it depends on the person and the situation. Also, property values inside the loop have skyrocketed over the last 20 years, much more so than the burbs. People who live in the burbs also spend hundreds of hours a year commuting. Living in the city is awesome. I've lived in the burbs and the city, and I'll never commute or sit in traffic again every single day if I don't have to. I'd rather live in a 1500 square foot house and have 600 extra hours a year than live in a 4000 square foot house in the burbs. To each their own.
You're talking about <500k homes. I'm talking about the priciest lots in Houston based on you overvaluing an area due to "expensive square footage". No one has an incentive to spend real money on "pricey square footage" in a ghetto area like the heights as opposed to estates in Memorial or River Oaks. Maybe single professionals making 200-250k max, but if I was in that position I would never do anythign more than lease. Commute is not an issue when you report to yourself - not a boss. That is what premium Texas real estate gets you - great space for price.
Compared to you get some chuckles out of Bigtexxx taking pics of BJ's house while calling him out on CF.net? Batman Jones has been very open about his issues and also his struggles with addiction so I am not posting anything new here. If he didn't speak about that I wouldn't have brought it up. Batman Jone's post obviously wasn't classy and frankly disturbing, not defending it at all. That said following up with going to his house, calling him out and posting pics wasn't either.
