I've only heard the one report from David Barron. I haven't heard all major carriers coming out and confirming that CSH is asking for $3.40 per subscriber.
None of them have confirmed the actual price (that's probably illegal) but all have basically said the price is abnormally high compared to other similar channels in other markets. If the price CSN was asking was the least bit reasonable, don't you think at least ONE of the major carriers would strike a deal just to get a leg up on their competitors?
Go back to the Grantland article I posted. This is much bigger than one provider or two sports teams. It's bigger than a short-term competitive battle. This is an enormous power struggle between the cable conglomerates and the new pricing model for regional sports networks. If one of the non-Comcast major carriers gives in and strikes a deal, it's only a matter of time before the others do. It would kill leverage. As such, the providers know they have strength in numbers and it only makes sense for them to work together.
what is the probability that we will not be able to watch any non-nationally televised games for the entire season? i thought this would be over by now?
January 11, 2013: "Fan's" Log #3 It's been several months since my last log and not much as changed. I feel like there is no resolution to this in the horizon. I myself along with others fear that no one cares about us. We have found temporary relief in online streams but that can only hold us off for so long. We'll continue to be strong.
So are The Cat and RM95 and other pro-Comcast posters who have the games even accepting of the possibility that Comcast is asking for an abnormally high fee in relation the the ratings? Is it possible that they're okay with never coming to an agreement because their internal trackers show that they're making money by poaching enough customers from other providers?
hey yall thy got the rockets vs lakers on right now on nba tv first game i seen in a while pre recorded of course thanks comcast sports network for allowing me the chance to see your rock ettes lol
I'm not necessarily pro-Comcast. I've stated many times that I'm sure there's enough blame to go around. I'm sure there are thousands of scenarios that could be playing out behind the scenes.
Its clear to me that Comcast is overcharging for the channel, because they're currently in the position to do so. I sincerely hope the other cable providers and their customers don't give in to Comcast, just on principle. If the stalemate lasts indefinitely, so be it.
Just as a reference, here is the deal I got from DirecTV about 2 months ago: - Free Remaining 2 months on NFL Sunday Ticket Max + last month reimbursed ($174 value) - $10 off a month for 6 months ($60) - $8 off for one of my DVRs for a year ($96) - $200 gift card You must call your provider. Ask for cancellations IMMEDIATELY...DO NOT TRY TO NEGOTIATE! DO NOT ASK WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR YOU! When you reach the cancellations department, tell them you wish to cancel. They will ask why, tell them that you are a huge Rockets fan and you want to switch to a provider that has CSN. They will offer you a deal. In my case the first deal they proposed wasn't enough. I told them, "Look, I will pay you $1000 dollars to watch the rockets games...I don't care. You cannot provide me with a timeline on when this deal will be worked out...I need to switch providers." (I was serious but you don't have to be) They will get you a better deal. Just have patience. The cancellation department is not there to cancel your service, they are there to keep you on as a customer at almost all costs. I have told this to some pseudo fans at work and they have gotten decent deals as well. Good luck and stick it to the man.
They could care less if there is an agreement, they watch every game. That is what they do not understand, it is different when you can't watch the games fuc* you Les fuc* you comcast
The rockets group tickets department can kiss my fat a** I have sold hundreds and hundreds of tickets to rockets games through them over the years taking teams to their games. They could care less about me as a fan or any of us to be honest. They still email me regularly with these "discounts" when they won't let me follow the team on a regular basis. They could offer me free tickets, free parking, free beer and i wouldn't waste my gas money going right now hey les, and hey rockets group ticket department . . pucker up
A report by somebody who doesn't have any skin in the game. He doesn't work for the teams or the providers. Now if you want to call out Barron's veracity, I suggest you take it up with him or his editors. You can believe that the providers have all banded together to perpetuate a lie that the asking price is excessive, all the while not carrying the local sports teams and giving out crazy discounts to anybody who complains enough. It is just very unlikely in an industry that thrives on stealing subscribers from their competitors and constantly seeks larger market share.
No...The Cat already told us that it is a vast conspiracy amongst the providers. I am sure they are having their weekly meeting in a parking garage wearing trench coats.
I'm about to live in a UH dorm that has uverse, so I'm going to try this tomorrow to get my discount. Like five minutes from the arena and catch watch the games.
Seriously. When there are thousands of threads on this site do we really need to be lectured on how to post in the ONLY thread allowed on this site that deals with the issue? Does getting the games really cause fans to become completely callous to those of us that can't? It really ****ing seems that way when we're lectured to keep our comments to this one thread. Half of us, Clutch. We've been dedicated Rockets fans and dedicated clutchcity then clutchfans people for over a decade some of us. Some of us for over two decades. If you need to keep us in one thread and one thread only, fine. But please friend, don't tell us how to feel in the only thread where we're allowed to talk about it. Please imagine for a moment that you didn't have a way to watch the games. And please be respectful of those of us that have been hardcore fans for so long and are suddenly blacked out. And please, for the love of God, do not tell us how to feel about it. Oh, also, don't get the wrong idea. I wouldn't want to offend those of you that are watching the games from the comfort of your own homes. So as the Beard said, SIR, YES SIR. So sorry for expressing anger and disappointment about missing Rockets games on a freaking Rockets fan site. How inappropriate of us.
