Has anyone else noticed that over the years clutchfans has morphed into a stat heavy forum...I believe moreys love for numbers has infected all of us...eventually researchers will go to clutchfans for advanced statistic information ha.
People automatically assume that a fast pace team is a poor defensive team. The Spurs are the second fastest team behind the Rockets. Nobody ever accused the Spurs to be poor at defense, probably because of their past reputation and also because of their winning records. We are average at points allowed per 100% which is the true measure of team defense. Considering our inexperience, it's actually pretty good.
It is opp ftm/opp fga for defense. Basically, free throws are high percentage shots. This stat measures if a team is getting to line and making free throws a lot per field goal attempt.
Yeah, the Rockets are 16th in opponent's points per possession... but the Rockets themselves are 16th in points per possession. And considering the Rockets are the highest-scoring team in the league, they aren't going to increase their offensive production much. Yet there are other high scoring teams, like the Spurs, who give up a lot less in points per possession. So the Rockets certainly can - and must - improve in the amount of points they give up per possession if they want to win more games.
In terms of defensive effenciency, the Spurs are pretty danged good. They are 5th best in the league in defense, while the Rockets are 17th.
Where did you get that? The Rockets are 7th in PPP (6th if adjusted to opponent's strength). Exactly. A fast pace team doesn't have to be a bad defensive team. Adelman's Kings used to be one of the fastest paced teams and they were top 5 defensively.
I would think our defense has improved as the season has progressed, just like our offense has. Both were terrible to watch at the beginning of the season. It's great having Asik in there.. we give up a lot more inside when he's out, but perhaps we get a trade-off boost in offense as well.
Exactly (two times). A fast paced team means more possessions for everyone, rox as well as opponents.
our weakest links on D in starting line are Harden and Lin. Tony and hopefully anderson if he ever gets any PT, can assist to improve this
Um no. Lin plays excellent D and hustles like a mofo. Is his frustratingly inconsistent offense giving you the idea that he sucks so much as a player that he can't play D either? I mean, I would understand that if it were the case, but it is what it is. I'm frustrated too.
I assume that is a matter of Parsons being tasked to guard the opponent's best scorers? Harden on the other hand? Everyone needs to rest.
Being objective here ... I am just thinking people are in love with someone and overlook his weaknesses
Jeremy Lin 0.81 PPP Allowed, 102nd in the NBA James Harden 0.90 PPP Allowed, 229th in the NBA Toney Douglas 0.87 PPP Allowed, 187th in the NBA And Jeremy Lin doesn't need to give Harden a break, he nearly always starts off guarding the opposing PG's, who are usually explosive scorers. And does so for significant minutes. Parsons gets the toughest large position scorers. Lin gets the most dangerous PG's and guards (unless he's split across guards with Tony Douglas).
Of course you can make excuses but there is still a reason why we rank at the bottom in defense and we are allowing a team like Boston to score 100+ points who usually score in the 87 area
