a lot of ppl here were talking about his potential. no one said he is NOW at the level of nash and stockton... regarding the potential, it's all about opinion. you can disagree or agree. it doensn't matter if it is true or false.

could you predict nash could be that good at the time when he just started his NBA career? i believe you would have done exactly same to ppl who thought nash would be good.

True. The problem with Jeremy Lin, is that he will never be the first option unless there is an injury to the team's first option. This means he will never have the option on a nightly basis to get 15-25 shots to get the point stat of 20+. Can he do it, based on the small sample of games that he was the first option, yes. However, no one can speculate whether he can do this for a whole season...it's a toss up because he will never get the chance. I'm sure if he's got the green light like Irving or Curry to get a stead high volume shots, he's going to get similiar numbers....but it's ALL speculations and nothing more. However, the fact remains that during those small samples he did put up all-start numbers.

Their potential is quite different from Lins because they were drafted to be expected to be good, Lin was not drafted. That's not to say he might not do it. But what my point is how people claim certain arguments. We have clearly seen that harden is just on another level than Lin yet people wanna say he has more potential. no. Kidd began his career and was passing 7+ assist his first year. I'm not claiming that Lin is not good. I'm claiming that he is being overrated. The predictions these people make are ridiculous and least make it realistic until he achieves them then go on a limb to say he is gonna be better or not then certain players. Let him get 15ppg and 7+ apg the whole season first then go on a limb to make those predictions.

As for number 1 options, the nba knows more than us and who can be and cannot be number 1 option for their teams. Lin is a number 4 option for most teams with great players. Number 2 or 3 with teams with not so great talents. Yea, he may have put up great numbers as a number 1 option but so have many other players when the number 1 option for their teams are not playing.

do our "power forwards" understand the concept of a pick? that it's supposed to create an obstacle for the defender and create some extra space for our european and asian backcourt? That's it's okay to make contact with that defender as long as you don't move? these guys just slide and hit air when they set their "picks". toney douglas and his football background should teach these fools. shoot, he should set the picks when he is in as the third guard.

Realistically, a point guard in the NBA is really not destined to be your number option (in terms of scoring). A team having a point guard as the number option, with some exceptions - Isiah Thomas..at least I can think of, will have a hard time winning it all. In the end, in basketball, size does matter to a high degree.....as good as Westbrook is he's still second fiddle to Durant.:grin:Chalmers could be a potential threat in any other teams in the NBA...but sits out during some crunch times for the Heat.

This. Is Patterson being instructed not to touch anyone?

    sounds a very weak argument.

don't forget after a first few picks, everyone knows expectation and potential of rest of draftees are pretty same, ranging from bust to star.

the reason ppl like lin's potential is he showed his capabilities last season during linsanity. he has been a winner and leader since high school. whether his potential can be translated into a success in NBA IS another story. No one knows until he is given a couple full seasons to grow. denying his potential just means either you don't watch his games or your ignorance is taking over your brain.

Its just difficult to execute Lin's bread and butter when the one setting picks for him, clearly doesn't know how to finish.

Allstar is just pop, what matters are rings anyway.
Look , yer statment is reasonable but not the same as jeremy lin backup/bench pg in 4 years . And now third rate.

So u agree that king1 statment was too negative?

Lin hasn't played a full season yet. Check out how Nash or Tony Parker played in their first two seasons. Lin is exposed too early because of the whole Linsanity thing.

Yes he has a lot of weaknesses. Shooting, left hand, turnovers. But these are the skills comparatively easier to fix. If you watched DRose or TParker in their early seasons, they were bad shooters, too. Lin's got speed, explosiveness, good court vision and a nice finishing ability in the lane. And he's a willing passer and hard worker. When he adds 3 pointers and pull ups to his game (maybe next season), he'll be pretty good.

If you watched his games last season, he shoot a lot mid range jumpers, and was a lot more confident when shooting 3 pointers. He will get that back.

When have I denied his potential? Are you seriously thinking that he can be that of Stockton, Nash, Kidd level potential right off the bat when he just started to be known? This guy barely played 81.. just a month ago he finally played 81 games I believe. How the hell you gonna tell me he has better potential than KIDD, NASH, STOCKTON, They have led their teams to Conference Finals and NBA Finals. KIDD led his team to the finals back to back and that was what 10 years ago or so? He was just coming around.

My problem is not with him, My problem is with people over rating him and saying his potential to be as of CP3 and such when he is not quite there or has shown the potential to be at CP3 level..

What makes you think he can consistently be the number 1 option when he can't consistently be the number 2 option or 3 option. When Harden was at OKC, he was consistently the number 3 option and did well.

    Great points, but.....
    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3930/career;_ylt=AtuYv8CfyZdL8io6t0bLwGMbPaB4

Let's say we measure Lin by minutes played. Lin has played 1 full season about 2800 minutes. That would be about Chris Paul's first year. Those numbers look eerily similar except for the turnovers. Points, boards, assists, steals are all similar. Jeremy has more blocks. Chris Paul's biggest difference is his ball handling and his ability to protect the ball/ or decision making (which can be improved).

Now if Lin starts hitting his shots a little bit better like he did during 'linsanity' (50%+), his numbers are equal to paul's 2008-2009 (small sample I know but considering Paul's improvement from 2005-2009, it's quite possible Jeremy can do the same.

Mind you, this is just a projection with the assumption that Jeremy will improve steadily like he has and will not get injured.

The difference here is '12-'13 Rockets are > than '05-06' Hornets (so far).

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NOK/2006.html

The difference is Harden is much better than David West/ JR Smith and the fact Jeremy is distributing the points to the rest of the team more. Chris Paul was firmly 2nd option on the team. Jeremy is 3rd option in scoring on the team thus far (this is a conscious effort on Jeremy's part since he holds the ball most of the time). He is the floor general, and he's the one dishing out the shots.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2013.html

By 2008-2009, Chris Paul became the first option scorer on the team. In 2.5 years time from now, when Lin get his 'poison pill' it's quite possible he will 1. either move to different team where he will be first option, or 2. become a close first/second option scorer for Houston (assuming his shots will knock down in the range of 50%).

I call it now, the probability of him achieving chris paul numbers in 3 years is high if he just improves his 3s and his midrange. Minus turnovers, it's a done deal because he definitely has a smart head on his shoulders to further improves rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and assists/turnover ratio.

Not to mention, his ability to "win" is amazing (with or without Harden).

in his very short nba career, he put up # same (if not better) than any of ones you mention WHEN he was #1 option and WHEN he dominated ball (means he had the ball most time). why do you think he can't consistently be the #1? i don't get. he doesn't want to do it due to harden not coz he can't. that's a huge difference.

CP3, Kidds, and Nash have been #1 ball handler on their team ever since they became starter. look at current rox, lin isn't. lin shares with harden as ball handler whenever they are on court at same time. in this sense, ppl need to reconsider how to calculate lin's real #. to me, lin kinda plays half time as ball handling PG and the other half as role player when lin and harden are both on court. with this in mind, his # doesn't look bad at all. plus, as a non ball handling player, lin is just one of 4. we have other better shooters ahead lin, his impact as a role player is limited. well, harden is different. even harden is not handling the ball, he is still #1 option among non ball handling players.

is this his fault? no. it is how rox is made up by gm and coaches. we are lucky lin has no problem with his role. i am not sure CP3 or other elite PGs would.

This argument can be said for a lot of NBA players who never reach their potential. Please just calm down with the comparisons. Let Lin be the next Lin.

I dare say, not many NBA players can go through "Linsanity" come back down to earth become 3rd option, regroup and further improve their numbers in such short time. That's a lot of pressure we are talking about. Most NBA players will break after the first break i.e: Kwame Brown

Patterson loves slipping the screen. I think he does it intentionally so that Lin is forced to give him the ball because he is open due to his man trapping Lin. It's a great way for him to get more touches and more shots.

i don't know many very well. here is one example, TD when with knick was ahead of lin. inserted him as a starting pg, he failed badly. then we saw linsanity. to reach lin's capability, somehow lin has to be the #1 ball handler and given freedom. he is definitely not a good role player. if we are talking about lin's weakness. this is the REAL one. this is the one I am concerning most.

Hey, not going to argue - that's always a possibility. But to say he 100% can't is foolish, as he showed once, he can given the right conditions.
