Hey, I've got a secret plan. Lets run on first down, pass on second, then if we have 4 yards or less we'll run on third. They wont know what's going on!
Because if we didn't, someone else would. Since 2008, he's ranked 7th, 7th, 9th, 6th and 9th in QBR; 2nd, 5th, 6th, 3rd, and 10th in YPA. Over that time, he's thrown just 46 INTs in 2,373 attempts, a pace better than Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. You can think all you want that Matt Schaub isn't elite, he's overrated, he can't carry an offense or audible at the line of scrimmage... but to have that level of efficiency under center is a) not terribly common; b) not cheap.
Yep, that's why Carr is still the starter here. And Kubes put ALL his chips on Schaub. That left no room to sign guys like Andre, Foster, Antonio Smith, or Jonathan Joseph.
If Schaub continues to play like he did against the Bengals and Kubiak stays on I think Kubiak finds another QB for next season.
No way! Schaub is our QB until his contract runs out . . or at least until they have an out clause. He will NEVER be a backup with the Texans. Rocket River
No. Has anyone ever said he was other than the brief window when no one knew if Peyton Manning could throw a football? I'm not sure what your point is...
I was going to type out long winded responses to many of you, but most of you guys just aren't smart. WTF is an "ugly" win? A win is a damn win. He isn't going to game plan for New England the same way he did for the Bengals, because they aren't the same team. Cincinnati has an amazing defense, who has basically outscored their offense as of late. Remove the pick-six, and this game is a landslide victory. There was no reason to press, our defense had their offense on lock down. There was also no reason to press on offense because they have a dynamic defense that creates turnovers and points. All of you guys complaining are probably the dumb-asses booing a punt on 4th and 1 from the 50 yard line, when you have a dominant defense and a lead. Ridiculous. Kubiak is conservative most of the time, but b****ing about it in the Cincinnati game isn't wise... he played to win, and won. He also went 12-4 this season, and every team they lost to went to the playoffs. Also, a play action pass on 3rd down with 2 minutes left in the game and a six point lead isn't "conservative."
I'm not sure what your point is in bringing up a statistic that Matt Schaub bests Peyton Manning and Drew Brees in if you aren't arguing that he should be mentioned in the same breath as them.
/baffled Schaub went 29 for 38 for 268 yards. His lone mistake was the pick-six, which could partially be blamed on play calling. It isn't Schaub's fault Kubiak called a conservative game, even then he had a hell of a game. He would have had a touchdown too had AJ not dropped it. Let me guess, you want TJ Yates? He went 17/35 for 184 yards a 3 interceptions against the Ravens last year. Schaub's job has been and will continue to be to lead the offense in a steady fashion, and NOT lose the game. That's what Kubiak wants in a QB, since everything we do is based off of success with the run game.
Get used to it. He will be back next year even if he goes 0-25 with 5 INTs. He's going to be on the texans QB for the next 3 years, at least (assuming no major injuries happen).
It was in a series of responses to a poster that has a) claimed the Texans gave Schaub too much money; b) thinks the Texans should have released Schaub after last season and replaced him with TJ Yates. In this marketplace, given Schaub's accomplishments - independent of whether you want him here or not - his contract is not outrageous. That was the point. Several teams would have been interested in Schaub if he had been allowed to hit the open market and likely would have offered a deal bigger than the extension he signed here.
Kubiak called the same game he always does; Schaub simply took zero chances. He averages, for his career here, 7.9 YPA. Saturday, he was below 7 and below 6.5 if you remove his one big play (a 22-yarder to AJ). It was a classic checkdown-Carr game from Schaub. But trust me - that wasn't by design. Guys were running deep routes as they always do. I thought Schaub was... slightly below average Saturday. The pick-6 was the only reason it was even a ball game and yes, AJ should have caught the TD pass - but Schaub panicked and threw it way too early. That should have been the easiest completion of his career. He'll need to play better and less afraid Sunday.
Schaub runs the plays Kubiak tells him to, thus the reason he doesn't take chances. Our bread and butter is ball control, so 3 out of 4 passes are 7-10 yards. Schaub has no problem airing it out when needed, and he throws 20+ yard passes all the time on play action. Schaub's only real weakness is the deep ball, which is the weakness for 90% of QBs in the league. He is a serviceable QB that fits perfectly in to our system. Would I love to have an elite QB? Sure, but I also want a team built for longevity. The only teams that air it out successfully have top tier QBs which basically means the Patriots, Saints, Broncos and Packers. Schaub was 11th in total yards with just over 4,000 and 10th in yards per attempt. The kicker? He was 6th in completion percentage, ahead of Tom Brady and Drew Brees. So get out of here with that crap. Oh, and he also doesn't turn the ball over.
I don't blame Schaub for his low y/a average. What, he suddenly forgot how to make deep reads? The fact is we have no deep threats. AJ and Daniels are a year older and coming off injuries, and the rest of our WRs plainly aren't getting it done.
Too many people didn't understand the point being made in that thread. All they saw was "Schaub" and "Elite" and assumed that you were saying he was elite.
