envy and hate. sure you don't envy 15-20 record, but you envy 5 rings. and 30 millions salary. haters are gonna hate. I know it's a Houston ROCKETS forum, but can people just focus more on Rockets instead of b****ing and laughing other teams or players. looks like kobe haters are expecting kobe to be playing at top-notch level at any age, these people's expection is much higher than kobe fans. that's surprising, just because of the hate, and then really have to find something to hate? The Lakers might end up not being a playoff team, but Rockets won't be in the WEST finals either. should people have to say it this way? i don't hate anything even if Rockets can't get longer in the playoffs, but if you people really have to hate lakers this way, other people can find a lot of things to hate Rockets or Troll Rockets too, it's just boring to troll players like this, and some people seem to feel satisfied when they troll someone. you can say Lakers or Kobe is playing terrible, but why so much hate? The Lakers have 16 Championship, and Bryant has 5 rings, and he's one of the all-time great. and he's earning a LOT, that's already enough, and that's all that matters for a NBA Player. i don't care how people get rings, if you care, we can talk about how people's shots are made wide openly or tough shots. if players make a shot and score, it really matters how the shot is made?
Agreed. I understand that laker fans can be very pretentious and arrogant but laker haters can be just as bad by going out of their ways to hate on them at any given moment. Im by no means a laker fan but I am a basketball fan and enjoy seeing legends like Kobe and Nash playing together. Its unfortunate for the NBA that they're not winning a whole lot but Im not gonna complain about it either because Im a HOUSTON ROCKETS fan first and foremost.

That's one reason why I hate ESPN's coverage of the NBA. Nothing wrong mentioning the issues the Lakers have, but they rarely mention any other teams or players. When Dirk returned from injury, I was lucky to catch a recap of it. I haven't had NBA TV and other channels in months so ESPN is all I have now for basketball coverage. I was rooting for the Lakers the past 2 games. The Lakers had technical fouls that usually aren't called against them. Jamison and Clark proved why I felt the Lakers had a better team than given credit for. I'm not saying Clark can be consistent or duplicate anything close to the numbers he did last night. In Phoenix and Orlando, he was an OK player that tried, and he had potential. Artest was still a good defender who could score in double digits if not for being the 4th or 5th option. Jamison hasn't been used much despite having a good season last year. As much as I hate the breaks the Lakers have gotten over the past 12 years, I feel bad for Mike D'Antoni. I disagreed with him overplaying guys and not developing a bench in Phoenix. Him struggling with the Lakers only give people more reason to go to town on him and act like Phil Jackson was a guaranteed title win for the Lakers. The last 2 teams Phil had that were favorites benefited from a dozen or so lopsided calls in the 4th quarter in the 2010 finals and got trashed by a team people didn't expect to make it out the first round. When the Lakers signed Malone and Payton, they struggled when certain stars were out. Discrediting Mike D'Antoni for not winning a title in Phoenix isn't fair without mentioning the injuries and officiating that hurt them in 2006 and 2007. His New York stint is discredited because of their defense, at least Mike helped the Knicks be relevant again for the right reasons. Lenny Wilkens and Larry Brown couldn't do much with the Knicks during the short time they were there. Kobe having an efficient season, Amare being an MVP candidate, and Lin developing all happened under recently D'Antoni. Enough can't be said about his lack of defense, short rotations, and not adjusting to some players, but he's not a bad coach who lucked into good situations. Defense was an issue when Mike Brown was still coaching, they struggled against a depleted Dallas team.
Your right OP. Let's cheer on the Lakers and hope they can turn it around. And while we're at it, let's watch the Stockton-Malone Jazz again and cheer them on to victory as well. Clearly you know the history of our franchise to warrant making that statement. /sarcasm
Yeah, the Rockets are putting up a 58% winning percentage right now. So barring a huge let down and provided that we keep beating up on the Eastern Conference we're looking at 47-48 wins. With Golden State, Portland and Denver playing well I fully expect us to be fighting until the last game for the 7th and 8th seed. The Lakers are facing a Hurculean task to get in there from 15-21. I actually do expect the Lakers to get it together eventually, like Miami did, there are just too many talented players on that roster for them not to rattle off a couple of nice stretches. I just don't think that'll be enough to get it done. Especially, if they're looking at a few more weeks without Howard.
The Lakers deserve all the hate. It shouldn't be hard to understand for a Rockets fan. Did you enjoy seeing legends like Malone and Stockton play together too?
I'm not a Kobe hater, I'm willing to admit he's one of the 10 best players of all time. But, what was the point of bringing in Nash and Howard if he is still going to chuck 25-30 shots a game? The point of this was to take some of the load off his shoulders. He acts like he's still playing with Luke Walton and Smush Parker. HE is the problem. D'Antoni's offense doesn't function when the ball stops. Even if he's leading the league in scoring, he's doing it to the detriment of his teamates.
2 months and the same problems persist. Now I may think they won't even make the playoffs. A lot of heads are going to roll after this season on that team.
If you don't think nicknaming yourself is lame I guess we can just stop there. Not sure why you went off on all these tangents lol.
Not sure people envy anything about Kobe, but they sure do hate them. Unfortunately, advocating for the appreciation, much less celebration of such a legend is practically impossible around these parts of the interwebs. Still, we can rest easy knowing we don't need to rag on players or teams to feel better about ourselves. Let the haters stroke eachother all they want, it IS the internet.
I personally wouldnt consider him top 10 now if you want to say top 10 like guards - you easily can make a case that kobe is top 5 this is my personal top 10 (no order) Oscar Robertson Magic Bird Jordan Kareem Hakeem Wilt Russell Duncan Shaq Most likely by the time it is said and done I would replace Duncan with LeBron in a few years this is not to say kobe isnt an amazing player or competitor but he probably lived in an media era and had a huge edge playing with a in prime Shaq early in his career and racking up 3 rings then. Kobe on his own hasnt had the same sort of success some of the other stars have had on their own (and by 'on his own' i mean not having a 2nd guy that is arguably another all-nba 1st teamer not necessarily having another guy who is an all-star on his team) as for the lakers -- **** them I hope they lose all their games from here on out -- and I hope they are all nail biters to the very end and they lose on heart breaking buzzers each and every game
I understand why there's hate...they have pompous and arrogant fans that act as if they're entitled. Im just bothered at how people go out of their way to spew crap at the lakers. It's a little nauseating honestly but we can agree to disagree here because my opinion isnt very popular with you. They were a dynamic duo and I respect them but did I enjoy them the way I enjoy nash and kobe? No but it is what it is and they played damn good ball so i cant hate that but i do hate what they represent. However, I wont go out of my way to talk crap about them...just not how I see things as a fan. Just annoying IMO First of all, nash nor kobe did anything to us that warrants hate like how malone bear hugged drexler on that pick in the 97 WCF. It simply doesnt compare to me at all... Second of all, sure kobe got in battier's face in the 09 WCSF but what does that constitute? He was not CHEATING like those bastards from utah and did you see us getting out of that series w/ chuck at the 5? I mean in 97, that shot HURT like hell because of the consequences...game 6 w/ game 7 on the line to see who goes to face MJ and the bulls so IMO it doesnt compare to me when it comes to hate. Third, what did nash do to deserve hate? He just went to a team that is closer to his fam and gets a shot at a title. It doesnt seem like a great idea now (I was more on board with him going to NY or Toronto) but who knows. I've been a rocket fan since the ripe age of 4 and yes, I hated LA like everyone else after that 09 series and wanted them to burn for it but it still doesnt compare to what utah did to us.
first of all this is the NBA Dish of the Rockets forum. last time I checked, the Rockets and Lakers have a storied playoff history that includes the Lakers going through the Rockets on their way to some of their 16 championships. I don't envy Kobe, I respect his greatness and defend him (as a basketball player) when his detractors bring up Colorado (as if it has to do with his game). I certainly hate the Lakers and their entitled fans for EXPECTING TITLES TO BE HANDED TO THEM without playing the damn season and earning it in the playoffs. most people here are knowledgeable enough about the sport to see the patterns over the last three seasons- I have been saying it since they were swept by the Mavericks in 2011- this team is on the decline. I enjoy defending this position and seeing the Lakers fans make excuses after excuses, only being able to count 16 championships as if it matters this season. why do you keep bringing up the Rockets? this is a thread about the Lakers , who are 15-20 with Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, and Metta World Peace.
Yes, each for his own. To me, much of the fun of being a sports fan is absolutely loving a team and absolutely hating some other teams. "Fan" is short for "fanatic" which is what it is. The love and hate of teams do not have to be rational. ... although hating the Lakers is pretty rational to me...
You are far too sensitive if you are bothered by fans of one team bashing players of an opposing team. If you really want to see something troubling, go into the GARM and witness fans spewing crap at their own teams players and coaches.
