In a perfect world I wish I could rewind time and nab the 2004 version of Rasheed Wallace. The guy that was a franchise player for the Blazers and traded to the Hawks for 1 game and then traded to the Pistons whom he helped win a Championship. A talented player that could do it all who had just enough issues to bring down his trade value to become available without the other team having to give up the farm yet Sheed was able to make a huge impact for the right team. Just shy of 7 feet he could play both the 4 and the 5, he could run the floor, was very athletic and most importantly he possessed a true post up game where he could play with his back to the basket, he had 3 point range to stretch defenses, he made the right passes, he was a good shot blocker and rebounder as well. He had a very good knowledge and feel for the game and loved taking clutch shots. You look back at Sheed's numbers and they're not eye-popping but he was damn talented who had no weakness except for his own temper. This board always talks about Josh Smith, Cousins, Love, Aldridge etc... Well if you could mix Ryan Anderson's 3 point range, add Kevin Love's feel for the post, Lamarcus Aldridge's length and turnaround jumper, Demarcus Cousin's attitude, and sprinkle in Josh Smith's athleticism and roll it all up and you end up with Sheed. If only Wallace were a pair of Jordan's and there was a release for Retro Sheed that could be had.
Though it's not my favorite option, I think a 3-team trade where we get Josh Smith is the most realistic scenario for a deadline deal. I am assuming Atlanta don't want to pay Smith this summer and would like to get some young pieces in return rather than letting him walk for nothing in the summer? On the other hand they are 20-14 this season, and I don't know if they want to mess with their season to get younger right now.
The rebounding rate has been down lately We were outrebounded or did not have the large rebounding advantage of earlier games So I would think Morey does want a heavy rebounding 4
Nah, I think it's been extremely clear that the priority is someone who can be a threat taking 3pt attempts. At the moment, Morris is doing great in that department but he's a below average rebounder and seems unable to defend 4's. Josh Smith would be a poorer shooter, but equally good in the fast break, great shotblocker and average rebounder. I don't like his game, but given the way we play his weaknesses (mainly post play) may not be a big priority. If he can rebound well and improve his shot selection slightly, I think he could catapult us into contention. Teams would find it very difficult to penetrate a line-up with Smith and Asik in the middle.
Basically the Rockets just keep feeding Delfino for 3pt shots, take away his other lower percentage shots, and bang ... Delfino has much better overall stats and impact this year than in previous years by just putting up 9 3pointers per 36mins. So if we assume that with Lin and Harden doing the facilitating, we basically only feed Josh Smith 3pt shots and shots at basket, which is what Morris gets (2Pat gets more mid-rane shots) and how the Rockets have the best on court plus/minus, perhaps Josh Smith would be a good addition (& better than my original target of Millsap). http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/smithjo03/shooting/2013/ Of course, Kevin Love is the better player, but Smith is a better defender, is better in assists/steals, and runs the court in fast break situation better, and a capable rebounder. He brings a different element of fit to the Rockets. His athleticism relative to Kevin Love may also be a better fit next to Asik, and more importantly, he is a free agent and would probably be interested to play alongside Harden.
Morey probably will get a mediocre - good PF because for normal I don't see any free agent is good enough to make the rockets considered to be one of the top 4 seeds. So, I guess He will get a mediocre PF to sign short contract carrying the Rox deeper into the playoff to earn more exp.
not talking about the max contract obviously, but what about Derrick Williams? starting to play better and he fits our offense perfectly. Rebounds a LITTLE better than Ppat and Morris. And he's only 21
It's hard to tell what Danny Ferry is up to. He might just be under the impression that getting rid of Joe Johnson's enormous contract was "enough" for the time being. And as Josh Smith has grown into the vocal leader of that team? Maybe they discuss the possibility of him staying a Hawk this off-season. God knows Atlanta will have the cap space.
I don't understand this sudden interest in Derrick Williams. He's put together maybe 2-3 weeks of good play, coinciding mostly with Rubio's return. If you listen/read Minny's bloggers/commentators, they had basically given up on the guy and say only Rubio is able to make that Williams look good.
I just want Morris or PPatt or both gone so that DMo can get more PT and Jones isn't languishing in the DLeague anymore. Also would be nice to pick up a 4 that can provide help D and protect the rim at times cause PPatt and Morris are too undersized/vertically challenged to do so.
I hope that's not what Morey is thinking. I hope he's thinking "we're keeping Harden unless Durant or Lebron come along, but everybody else is on the block".
He was the second overall pick of 2011 but has been doghoused and poorly utilized by Rick Adelman. Teams smell a buy-low opportunity.
I agree with this. So who is a good PF that's ona short contract and can be had for cheap. Pau Gasol!!! Expiring next season and as LA is in luxury tax hell he can probably had for cheap. By no means a long term answer at the PF spot but he fills in until that player becomes available.
You can say he's been "poorly utilized" by Adelman, and we can debate how that's the case. But from what I've gathered, he's just not that good and even 3 months ago was a lock to be a bust. There was a reason he was in the doghouse. All of last year, it was bad shot selection, terrible defense, and no motor. I know in 2011 some people were even saying he should go before Kyrie, but he really hasn't shown much at all. Even PPatt and Morris have strung together some impressive games.
