I got a speeding ticket going 27 in a 20mph school zone. I'm guilty . What really sucks is that I was with my daughter and it was an embarrassing situation. Also, it's ironic that I'm always boasting I'm a good driver and I always complain to my family, especially my daughters, that people in that specific area are always disrespecting the clear school zone signs. I didn't even bother to check my own speed that time. I'll pay dearly. Please respect the laws or suffer the consequences, people. Oh, yeah, and don't attempt to get out of the vehicle unless the officer asks you... I don't know why I even thought about trying that... I apologized.
He would have told me "Ha! Look, mine are bigger!" SRSLY speaking, he said in a friendly tone: "What, you didn't see this huge fat cop with this green fluorescent shirt a mile away?" when I said "Sorry, officer. I don't drive fast around here and I guess I just had a heavy foot as I turned there [where I got clocked]."
Seriously? What the hell is wrong in the USA if you get searched like that for a 7 mile speeding violation? Doesn't seem in any way proportionate to me.
not justifying speeding in a school zone, but sometimes you just zone out and forget about it even though you've driven through the street everyday. i did it this morning. before realized it, i was up to 25 mph. luckily, i have never seen a cop with a radar gun there.
^ You don't even realize my disdain for myself for doing that. Whether one or seven miles over the limit, I was guilty. The officer even saw that I was upset, but not at him, and says: "We're all in a hurry, pal, sorry." So I said: "No, I realize I just made a mistake this morning and luckily you stopped me before I made it worse." This was after the ticket was written, anyway. Like you, I was joking about the search. They conducted no search of my vehicle, me, nor my nether regions.
Good thing it's a brand new year and you have a new defensive driving quota to fill. Btw, doing it at laffstop is overrated.
I do this sometimes too - its natural..especially when you drive the same route all the time. Its OKAY, you'll be fine. (emoticon added just for Swoly)
Don't be too harsh on yourself. That stuff easily happens to best of the most careful drivers. None can work like a robot all the time making sure of driving speed every second. You were unlucky. What you had there is very different from careless driving around schools.
i think this some times, especially when i notice the driver just dropped off a kid and yet he's tailgaiting me because i'm going "too slow". it's almost like i care more about their kids than they do.
