Contrary to what some would have you believe, it IS possible to have a VERY happy life even if you don't absolutely LOVE what you do for a living.

I certainly don't hate my job (most of the time...). Is it something I would do if it didn't pay? Hell no. Am I passionate about coordinating annuity fund prospectuses and annual reports? That would be NO.

The key is to make sure your life outside of work is fulfilling.

I look forward to going home from work every day to see my awesome wife and boys. The minute I get home, I'm on the floor playing with them and chasing them around the house. Then after they go to bed, I'm 'playing with' my wife....ya savvy? That's what keeps me going.

Then on the weekends, I play in a kick ass band. That's how I keep my creative juices flowing and that's where I get to actually do what I'm passionate about.

It's all about perspective. Once you understand that life goes on if your boss is an ass to you one day, you can be in a good place. So for me, as long as my direct deposit goes through twice a month...I'm happy and content with my life....even if I'm not 100% passionate about my day job.

Note: if you actually HATE your job, yeah, you should probably find something else and quit. I've always said that as soon as my job starts affecting my home life negatively....it's time to move on. That hasn't happened for me yet. Hopefully it never will.

My wife runs her own business, and she's a slave. Works all the time, worries after that. Customers imposing. Responsible for literally every deliverable. If the business fails, it takes us down with it. If freedom is what you want, starting a business isn't the way to get it. If she worked for The Man, she could come home at night, take vacations sometimes, have hobbies, do her online shopping on company time. That sounds a lot more like freedom to me. The only way having your own business is freeing is if it's successful and makes you rich; the wealth is what sets you free.

In most cultures, people would be happy to just have a job and get paid. In America, we have to be "happy" about what we are doing. No wonder we get depressed.
