There may not be any concrete evidence that he's doing anything wrong, but the perception is that he makes all of the key decisions and is on quite the power trip. To me it begins and ends with the fact that he couldn't work things out with Jimmy Johnson after they won Super Bowls together. The guy was coaching you to freaking Super Bowls and you let your ego take over instead of enjoying the ride. They rode out the greatness of the Aikman/Irvin/Smith era and since have been nothing, thanks to Jerry.
Jerry always goes for the big splash. Sure, he'll trade up for guys like Bryant and Claiborne, but in reality, the picks he's giving away could be far more valuable being used to address the main issue on that team.....their lack of any kind of O-Line or D-Line. So while he might be able to find diamonds in the rough at the skill positions, his biggest weakness is NOT going for the "boring" picks, and bringing in guys who will PROTECT those skill players. Can you imagine how much potent that offense would be if Romo just had some time to throw? Or if Murray actually had good running lanes? What about that defense? With Carr and Claiborne covering receivers, if they could just get pressure from a guy not named Ware, that would be formidable. But instead, Jerry trades away all their picks for the big named star in the draft, so when it comes to depth, the cupboard is bare. In his constant pursuit of wanting to stay in the news, he's forgotten the biggest adage in football.....the game is won in the trenches.
Jerry Jones on why he fired Rob Ryan - "It's not like we had a bunch of injuries when we played Seattle and Chicago." 1. The Seattle game started with a fumbled kickoff return by Felix Jones that Seattle picked up at the 29 yard line. The defense held them to a FG. 1 minute and 20 seconds later, Seattle scored on a blocked punt that they returned for a TD. The Cowboys offense scored 7 points all game long. The defense could have held Seattle to zero yards the entire game, and they still would have lost. 2. Against Chicago, the Cowboys defense gave up two TDs... which is the same exact amount of TDs that Tony Romo gave Chicago (2 INTs returned for TDs). 3. I guarantee you both Jason Garrett and Tony Romo will still be in Dallas next season. THAT is why Jerry Jones is the problem. The guy doesn't have a ****ing clue.
I don't see how this team is going to bring in guys that fit the 4-3 while also upgrading at offensive line. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Monte Kiffin... but it seems like it would have been a much better use of resources to keep Rob Ryan here. Then the Cowboys could spend their money and draft picks on offensive linemen, where they REALLY need to improve.
They can release players.. I mean, they're not keeping the 3-4 personnel AND bringing in guys to fit the 4-3 at the same time. Not sure why your 2 scenarios are exclusive
I don't know if Ryan was a good coach or not, but I can't stand any of the Ryan clan. They all seem like jerks.
