I really did not like him as DC - he never seemed capable of making in-game adjustments. Oddly, to me he was like the defensive version of Kubiak - he would come up with a game plan ahead of time, and if it is not working, the game is basically over, because they are never going to deviate from that pre-determined plan.

I can't tell you how many times this year EVERYONE knew what the opposing offense was going to do, especially when they were 'stuck' in 3rd-and-long situations.. EVERYBODY knew what the opposing offense was about to do, EXCEPT FREAKING ROB RYAN AND THE DEFENSIVE PERSONNEL.

And the opponents KNEW they Cowboys' defense was never going to adjust, and they made it seem as easy as a cake walk.

    Good riddance.

    Lovie Smith maybe?

Who cares? It could make the D worse...could make it better. I guess time will tell. Jerry doesn't know what the hell he is doing anyway. That is the only thing we really know about the Cowboys...is they are run by a bad GM who can't/won't fire himself.

I think the problem was Jerry Jones.

Why is he messing around so much with the team, there is a reason you hire GM and coaches, it is not so the owner can over ride them all the time.

What exactly does he do to stifle the coaches? I keep hearing it, just haven't really heard an explanation. Last time I saw Garrett with a long leash he iced his kicker...

As far as talent, the Cowboys always seem to have personnel that's in the top 3rd of the league. They make bold moves for guys like Bryant and Claiborne. Their 3rd option WR's wind up getting big contracts elsewhere. They cut loose aging running backs at exactly the right time. The find contributors in later rounds like Lee, Murray and Bennett. Whatever Jones is doing to impede the GM seems fine to me. The talent is there.

Whatever Jones has been doing over the last 15 years should definitely continue. I think it's the perfect plan and should not be changed in the least bit. He should definitely remain as the General Manager.

There is nothing to see here...

Seriously though, what is it he's doing wrong? Vague statements like "he sucks" don't shed light on the problem. "He gets in the way of his coaches" - okay, like when? The teams are talented enough to win, what's the real problem? "Jerry Jones is the problem" - again, okay, how? Like what? I'm not trying to defend the guy, I'm trying to make more out of a common vague statement.

Personally I don't think he hires great head coaches to begin with. Parcels seems out of touch to me, sitting guys down after the draft and asking if they do drugs? Seriously? That's juvenile. Wade Phillips, not a head coach.

Jerry Jones is the GM. He isn't terrible at it, but he isn't great either. I think the Cowboy's talent is way overblown.

There is a reason they've won 1 playoff game in 16 years. Only one thing has remained the same across those 16 years.

He doesn't invest enough in the non-skill positions. He doesn't worry about personalities.

Any other GM that had one playoff win in 16 years would be fired a decade ago.

His coaches for the most part suck because he wants week coaches that do what he says.

He has done a great job increasing the value of the Cowboys and got them a wonderful stadium, but he has only done one really smart thing, and that was hire Jimmy Johnson.

QFT! Lovie Smith would be great, but I don't see him taking Jerry's crap...He needs to fire Garrett then I'll believe the season was a success

Lovie Smith wouldn't take a DC position, especially not this year. He can just sit back and have the Bears pay his last year of his deal and wait for more openings next year.

Him and Jerry wouldn't get along, Lovie likes to have control over his locker room doubt he'd enjoy Jerry being around all the time.
