I thought that 2012 wasn't as good of a year musically as 2011. My top 10 albums are as follows:

    1 - Frank Ocean - Channel Orange
    2 - Grizzly Bear - Shields
    3 - Swans - The Seer
4 - Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light
5 - Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel
    6 - Sigur Ros - Valtari
    7 - Beach House - Bloom
    8 - Japandroids - Celebration Rock
    9 - Purity Ring - Secret Shrine
    10 - Grimes - Visions

I was disappointed in Animal Collective's latest, "Centipede Hz", probably put unrealistic expectations on that album. I've got the Dirty Projectors album and I just cannot get into that group for whatever reason.

For me, it's mainly Spotify with a little bit of Rolling Stone. I listened to over 120 plus albums in their entirety this year thanks to Spotify. They keep track of all the new releases on Tuesdays, so it's easy to know what just came out. That coupled with the similar artists section, I'm able to discover new music now in such a quick and easy manner.

Despite its flaws, Rolling Stone keeps me up to date on upcoming releases, what the bigger bands are doing and I think they do a good job of tracking the buzzier bands as well. And they review quite a few albums per issue, so if I read about some artist that I know may be up my alley, I check 'em out on Spotify and go from there.

I stay current with the Pitchfork app. I just wish they would stop acting like hip hop still is still relevant

Go to http://www.allmusic.com/ and register for the free new music newsletter. You get an email every week with all the new releases including remasters. Most cd's listed have a link to a preview. They list classical music, rap, pop, rock and a little blues. Also the site has a top 50 of 2012

    Mine in no order:

    Rusted Root - The Movement
David Byrne and St. Vincent - Love This Giant
    Donald Fagen - Sunken Condos
    Grizzly Bear - Shields
    Dwight Yoakam - Pears
Gary Clark Jr. - Blak and Blu
Joe Bonamassa - Driving Toward Daylight
    Bonnie Raitt - Slipstream
    Joe Louis Walker - Hellfire

And I am a big fan of Uno, Dos and Tres' too

Probably because they're my favorite band of the last 5 years and I think it might be the only 2012 made album I purchased...

    Delta Spirit - Delta Spirit

They did a redesign of their site and I don't see it either... though I just got the 1-08 letter as we speak.

But I did a google for it and found this:

    http://usrmgr.allmusic.com/

The releases in that email are the same as shown on the site, I just don't have to remember to look at it.

I wouldn't really classify most of what the OP (and a lot of other posters) listed as "underground." Most of those acts are really popular, they just don't get radio play.

I love Dylan's voice. I loved his young voice, his present voice, and every voice in between. I found the album repetitive and boring. And droning and irritating with its constant, repetitive 12 bar blues.

I didn't much care for the last one either. I think the last really good one was Modern Times.

Not sure what you mean by "relevant," but Curren$y's "Stoned Immaculate" and Cigarette Boats EP were pretty great. Cocaine 80s also put out three wonderful EPs.

I'm a huge Todd Snider fan, but couldn't get into this at all. The lyrics/ideas were good/great, but as a musical album I just couldn't do it. Maybe you can break it down for me and offer some insight? I was really disappointed in this and most of The Excitement Plan. I love Todd, but his last couple efforts have seemed kinda phoned in, which is sad considering how talented he is.

Asking the wrong dude. I'm terrible at explaining why I like the music I like. That said, I'm not ever a huge lyrics guy, but I thought they were great on this one.

"They say living well is the best revenge
    I say bull****
    The best revenge...is revenge"

"I may have been born yesterday, but I was up all night"

FWIW, I didn't like The Excitement Plan at all.

Batman, aren't you a big Todd Snider fan? What did you think of this one?

I listened to a new rap song the other day. Some fellow named Meek Mill said "she wanna ****, and I say church".

    Yeah, um... Dope?
