Royce White refuses assignment to D-League (UPDATE: Rockets suspend him)

    I don't think it have anything to do with flying right now since the Rockets got that resolved a long time ago during training camp where the Rockets issued him an RV to ride to certain games.

    I know White has general anxiety and I don't have any say in it because I don't know how he really feel but all of this issues going on right now doesn't really seem like his mental illness is the problem...

    Royce is saying that he's fighting a cause but it's more like he's doing it to benefit himself. He wants the NBA to issue his protocol but was never specific. I think back when he was in college, he was the star of Iowa and I'm sure he got special treatment from the school. I think when he got to the NBA, he thought he would still get the same special treatment but when he was benched and wasn't close to being in the rotation, he thought he could force the organization into his demands and blackmailing the Rockets and the NBA until his protocols are issued...

    Looks like the Clutch crew work pretty quickly to keep this board clean. Kudos to them. My response disappeared about a minute after I posted it, and that was only a few minutes after the poster's second comment. It's a good reminder to me that I should be mindful of respecting the quality of this board.

    That, or be guaranteed minutes.

    Because this isn't about health - all Royce has to do is refuse to play at any time and get suspended without pay - at no risk to his health.

    The only thing a "protocol" does is guarantee pay or guarantee minutes.

    Royce White wants the NBA, the National Basketball Players Association, the Rockets and himself to sign a document detailing his wishes for the mental health protocol. White has informed the Rockets that he won't report to the team until all parties sign the document.

    The signing of such a document is banned under the current terms of the NBA collective bargaining agreement.

    According to the uniform player contract detailed in the CBA, "no amendments to the form of the Uniform Player Contract provided for by Section 1 of this Article shall be permitted," and if a team or player agree on such an amendment, "such Contract or subsequent amendment, as the case may be, shall be disapproved by the Commissioner, and consequently, rendered null and void."

    Despite a frustrating and sometimes contentious few months, the Rockets continue to want White part of their program.

    The Rockets suspended White on Sunday and are expecting a resolution to be unlikely until the offseason

    The Rockets kept the same game face when Spanoulis was trying to get a release from his contract. Even when his agent compared the Rockets to slave owners through the media.
