So should there be a protocol for players that are physically handicapped too?

If my friend in a wheelchair wants to play in the NBA, should there be a protocol for that? As I see it, the NBA is not currently a safe working environment for them. #education

The crazy thing is he keeps harping about how unsafe the DLeague is. How the **** is that unsafe? Sure it's not the NBA, but compared to stuff like fire fighting or the Army it's a ****ing paradise. The only problem with it is the pay's not amazing compared to Europe and the NBA, but White was making NBA level salary anyway.

Morey should leak out information to Woj or EsPN and tell them exactly what the **** this clown is asking for, maybe he wants all the opponents to allow him to score 100 pts a game and grab 50 rebs, all so he could #be well.

F U White. You cost us a pick and a chance to get a decent player. I've never been so mad at any other NBA player in my life, he is ****ting on not just the Rox but the entire Dleague full of young guys who would kill to have a spot on an NBA team. This is the worst case of NBA megalomania I've seen since Sprewell said he can't feed his family with a 27M contract. At least Sprewell was already an NBA star when he said, this guy is trash and will probably be using government money to pay for his #medical condition very soon.

You better hope and pray your music career is a ******* hit because no self-respecting corporation should even think about giving you a job. #What a loser.

    Two thoughts on this:

    1) If he sues, no NBA team, or any other professional basketball team for that matter, will ever touch him. He will essentially be slamming the door on any hope of being paid to play basketball.

    2) If he sues, he will lose and he will lose huge. No court will ever give an employee the right to dictate his place in the company under the guise that not doing so would be discriminating against the employee's disability, which is what Royce wants. That would be akin to me suing my employer for not making me a director, which would be better for my mental health. Employer's owe reasonable accommodations, they don't owe unearned promotions.

I still believe the team should simply cut him.

That said... if White had any smarts or class, he would negotiate the end of his contract with the Rockets. That way when he is ready to play again, we can approach other teams and be a more attractive player to them.

He tweeted it. But I never saw a follow up by him or anyone else. Needless to say, I've been reading a lot of the threads here - way more than I should.

Giving the wording of Morey's statement, it seems obvious to me that the Rockets are legally preparing for the departure of Royce White. One way or another. Its odd coming from the owner who is currently paying 9 NBA players this year who aren't even on the team to go to court to seek damages from this situation, but one way or another, the Rockets seem ready to do so at least on paper.

I for one, hope they are able to cleanly get the contract voided with a compensation draft pick next year, even if it is a 2nd rounder, but more than anything, I just want this situation to be done with so we can all move on from this drama queen.

If the team cuts they will have to pay him the remainder of his rookie contract.

WHite has no smarts at all. If he had he'd just go to the dleague and play there. WHo the hell bites the hand that feeds them for no apparent reason? And who the hell turns down 3M a year and a promising nBA career in favor of #wellness?

Im still unsure exactly what health risks he is against taking.

Thats the disconnect here....he feels he shouldnt have to endanger his health to play, whereas I ask, just what is risky to his health about reporting to the Vipers or even reporting to the Rockets when he was asked to?

Explain that to me Royce defenders.

Im sick of listening to this guy make zero sense.

He is a failed pick....drop him and lets move on with players who do want to play.

Consider what he recently said during an appearance on on a SiriusXM basketball program that until the Rockets deliver a proper protocol for dealing with mental health care, chances are “very high” that he will never play in the NBA.

“The reality is that it is not Houston’s fault,” White said on the program. “As much as we always want to try and blame one side or the other … they’ve been thrown into a position now where they’re forced to make things up as they go because a protocol has not been put in place for mental health up until this point.”

White also said: “It wouldn’t shock me if we couldn’t be logical and say a protocol is needed because it’ll be the hard thing to do. If that’s the case then so be it. I stand on what I say and I refuse to put myself in a hazardous situation to play a sport.”

This sounds like he's asking the Rockets medical staff to 'make up a protocol', and that he (Royce) will decide if it's the appropriate protocol. If he doesn't agree with the protocol than he'll refuse to provide his services.

I'm taking a wild guess here and assume that the doctor's solution to Royce's problem might be playing time. As in he has to play in games and be subbed in/out in a regular manner so as to create a routine and a stable environment for Royce. Maybe perhaps theyre telling the Rockets that Royce should only play in X amount of games this season and sit out games that require long plane rides.

Just a wild wild guess though. hehe

I doubt the Rockets would actually disagree to do that if the doctors had strongly recommended it.

I think the doctors would more likely say you have to let him play whenever he wants - whenever his anxiety is making him suffer, he should be excused. He can say it at any time and leave for any given length of time.

That would be something the Rockets could not accomodate.
