Wow, I saw that we were at #6 a week ago and thought that was the highest we have been for years, and probably the highest we could hit this season. Then we hit #5 several days ago. And then I checked it today and we are at #4! Crazy. I love the way the Rockets are playing fast and my opinion of Harden has changed from him being a top 20 player in the league before we traded for him to now thinking he is top 6 or 7. Go Rox!
Not a very good stat hollinger uses. I'm beginning to think he sabotaged the formula before leaving the office. Maybe he wants Memphis to rank poorly so he can prove they are outperforming
I don't know what is more impressive. Rockets at #4 on the list or your ability to create a thread with your first post.
Hollinger's formula weighs performance of the last 10 games heavily-- intended to mimic the fact that "power rankings" usually rank hot teams higher. The Röckëts are 8-2 in their last 10 games, with an average scoring differential of 9.4 while playing against mostly non-crappy teams. Thus, the high ranking. Some of the other good teams have not been as hot (injuries, cold streak, or just taking it easy in Miami's case).
Wow, this is so crazy! Obviously I take this ranking with a grain of salt, but to think that most people had us pegged for a lottery team, this is amaze-balls. <a href="http://www.gifbin.com/981999"><img src="http://www.gifbin.com/bin/1232571374_b9eb036.gif" alt="funny gifs" /></a>
Yeah, these rankings aren't indicative of how good a team really is and their post-season potential, but it's still pretty cool though.
I was looking at the standings today, and I think, considering our record against Eastern Conference teams, that if we were in the Eastern Conference, we'd probably be the third seed behind Miami and New York right now. I also feel like it's not completely out of the realm of the possibility that we move as high as the fourth seed in the West. I can't hardly see how this team, as well as they've been playing, can fall below 6th if we stay healthy. I didn't think we'd win more than 35 games. Consider me amazed.
Yes, what's up with that? I've posted close to 100 times now and still unable to create threads, rep somebody, or embed videos.
Yeah as Carl said, Hollinger loves himself some L10 games, SOS, and margin. His weights on those stats are abnormally high, because usually they are very good at prognosticating the overall performance of a team. At this point, we are just an outlier at #4, but it is nice to see!
nevermind even if we dont cause there too much talent and potential...if harden were to take few games off i bet lin would quickly go to 25 ppg...perhaps even more...we also have Greg Smith ready to go beast mode if opportunity arises...ppat douglass morris almost anybody can shot 3 p and run on this team...
you guys forgot to mention , when did this surge come about? the Spurs game opened the way for Rockets , and the Knicks MSG game was the turning out. Good Work Coaches , no more crazy Sampson 'gangham' style coaching.
The Raptors are #14, and they lost to the Kings last night, so... I would say don't get too excited about our #4. I wonder if it's our highest ranking since ESPN.com has had the Hollinger Power Rankings.
Well, he invented the formula. You wouldn't rename the Pythagorean theorem or Einstein's theory of relativity after they passed away would you?
