F#CK JOHNNY FOOTBALL! He didn't even come up with that name. They stole it from a Nada Surf song.

Oregon is too nice a situation to leave to go to Cleveland. Stay in school Chip!

He had his JFF in Mariota(very good player in his own right). Johnny was at one time committed to Oregon.

It wouldn't shock me to see Vick land in Cleveland as a stopgap QB for a few years while they groom their future QB. Weeden will likely be on the trading block this offseason. Cleveland will likely invest a high pick in the 2013 draft on a QB to succeed Vick.

They will need to acquire a consistent WR threat to put opposite Josh Gordon.

The real question to me is how Kelly's offense fits Trent Richardson. Richardson, by all accounts, had a nice rookie season although his YPC was low. A lot of that can be attributed to him playing with broken ribs for almost two-thirds of the season and a passing game that defenses didn't have to focus on. He showed more ability in the passing game than most predicted he would and is one of the rare three-down backs left in the league.

Forget the recruiting rankings. You have to look at what actually happens instead of predictions. UO's raw talent on offense ranks with anybody. On the other side, their defense was actually pretty good this year until injuries destroyed their d-line and a couple of guys in their secondary blew out knees.

Saying Chip Kelly had a "bunch of 3-star recruits beating the 5-stars at USC" doesn't fly. They lost to USC last year and barely won this year (USC's 5-stars finished 7-6).

So, back to square one: I don't see why an NFL team would turn the keys over to him. He has zero NFL experience and six years ago he was the OC at New Hampshire. Since coming to Oregon, he's been able to recruit talented, extremely fast players that fit his extreme tempo ground-based system. In the NFL, that ain't gonna work IMO.

But if you're looking at results on the field, then you're not looking at the talent but at what Chip Kelly is doing with the talent - that's sort of the point. These guys aren't highly recruited. And then after they leave, they don't generally end up in the NFL. Oregon has had 1 first round draft pick in the last 5 years combined. So the talent really is 3-star type talent. But he schemes in a way that makes that talent look better than Mack Brown's 5-star players that do go to the NFL - and that's exactly the strength of Chip Kelly.

Now, whether he can do the same in the NFL is an open question. Certainly the strategies he uses at Oregon don't translate directly - but if he can scheme in other ways to maximize the output of the talent he has, that makes him an intriguing in NFL commodity.

Could do some serious damage with Trent Richardson at running back. Not sure if Weeden is the guy they need though. If anything, I'd say Colt McCoy would be a better option for them at the moment with that kind of offense.

No chance man. Absolutely no chance. Quote it if you want. What's he going to do, go for 2 in the NFL? Unless he hires an offensive coordinator and abandons at least 50% of what he did at Oregon there's no chance. Richardson needs 22 caries per game out of the I and Ace, not Shotgun. No chance.

Sumlin was a terrible hire in the SEC too. ;)

You're assuming he runs his offense because that's all he knows, as to adjusting his offense to whatever works.

I think Philly would be a better opion with L McCoy, D Jackson and Vick starting off as he builds his offense. Much better starting point than the browns

He might. You're right. But if he doesn't change it in a big way I do know he's screwed.

Philly is also in cap hell, they have a pathetic line and Defense, etc. That's the last job I'd want.

Any team that wants Vick could get him easily. Browns have Trent Richardson. Josh Gordon looks pretty good at WR.

FWIW, Browns were 5-11, Eagles were 4-12.

I would say Chip is risking his best chance to win the National Championship, it would be hard to win coming back to college at a job after Cleveland, but he's not losing much.

Why would it be hard for him to win at college after failing in the NFL? Look at Saban and Spurrier. Kelly's college football legacy will be intact no matter what happens in the NFL. Whenever he decides to return, athletic directors will go after him hard.

Not happening. Kelly will not be the Browns coach per Mortensen.

What a mess. If I'm one of his players at Oregon or an Oregon fan, I'm not exactly thrilled that he is coming back. Sure, the man can coach and all that, but coming back to Oregon sure seems like his last resort choice.

Plus, now every coach in the nation has some ammunition to negative recruit against Kelly and Oregon.

I guess the net result for me If I'm an Oregon fan is happiness because he's a proven winner, but I wouldn't be nearly as happy as if he had just announced he was staying and not even entertained the idea of moving to the NFL.
