The trial for Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond started today.

Their lawyers are going for the full-on slut shaming defense, calling up 3 of the victim's friends as star witnesses to say that she wanted it, and claiming that being inslopsicated to the point of not being able to say no = consent, and the fact that she's not going to take the stand (in an open to the public court), is an admission that she never definitively said no. I wish I was making this up.

I have a terrible feeling about this one; star athletes are usually able to get away with this kind of thing, and in the high school obsessed football town of Steubenville, these guys might as well be Kobe Bryant and Ben Rothlisberger. I'm truly going to be sad if this reprehensible strategy from the lawyers actually ends up working; don't these guys have wives, daughters, mothers? I can barely even write/read about their proposed defense; they have to say it and believe it...
