Turnovers per 40 minutes (pace adjusted): James Harden 3.5 Jeremy Lin 3.4 Toney Douglas 2.6 This is another reason why the coaching staff likes Douglas. His relatively low turnover numbers per minute played. The fans may not notice, but the coaching staff does.
You're so knowledgeable, enjoy reading your comments. Please be better than the posters who constantly bring up the lof/loh stuff though.
Agreed about the lof/loh stuff that some introduce into a thread even when no one before them mentions it. I was objecting to his interjection of such a generalization. It totally degrades the quality of discussion. It's a simpleton's way of debating, because it allows one to impose an arbitrary filter that precludes actually thinking.
Again, if only someone can post videos from the past several games of plays the team runs while Harden is on the bench and we have Lin/Douglas back court duo and this topic would make more sense. By the way, please stop with the LOF accusations. You all say that whenever you see the name Jeremy Lin being mentioned in a topic. I know most of you are tired of people whining and complaining about the team but at least give the OP the benefit of the doubt and if you actually watch all our games, you would have noticed it as well. This thread/topic was started in good faith and our team is actually winning and playing well right now so i didn't start this topic out of frustration from losing games or anything like that.
Given McHale's history with coaching and general manager duties, i doubt he will see even after 80 games especially if his job is not in jeopardy. Its like he has a game plan in his head and no matter what happens will not deviate from it. And when you have a high iq baller like Harden on your team, he will more than make up for a lot of the coach's shortcomings/dumb moves
I went back and rewatched the last two games (ATL and NOH) when Lin and Douglas was on the court. From what I saw, the coaches don't really care who brings the ball up the floor, as you say. However, Lin does tend to get the ball after a made shot. After a missed shot, it's pretty much whoever is open. Seeing as how the Rockets emphasize a fast-paced running offense, I can see why the Rockets choose not to run all plays through Lin when Harden is out. As a scoring offense you want to keep defenders guessing. Who's going to bring the ball up next? Delfino? Lin? Douglas? If you run the offense through Lin 24/7, the defense might choose to deny Lin the ball and slow down Houston's run-and-gun style of play. So no, Tony Douglas does not get most of the possessions with Harden out as the OP says. After a made shot, the Rockets tend to give the ball to their best playmaker on the floor - Jeremy Lin. After a missed shot, the Rockets prefer to run the ball up the floor, whether it be Douglas, Delfino, or Lin that gets the ball.
I agree with both of you. The Rox haven't been very efficient in playing PnR, and their focus shouldn't be there.
when TD and Lin are on the court together, Douglas usually runs pg- about 70% of the time, while Lin spots up on the corner- usually the right side. Look at most of Lins missed wide open 3pts, always from the same side. I currently have a problem with Harden playing pg while Lin is on the court- yes I understand he is a better playmaker etc- but he is the shooting guard and yet Lin the pg spots up for shots. Harden is understandable, but while the hell is Lin playing sg when Douglas is on the court. Would this be the perfect time to have Douglas spot up and actually make most of the 3's that Lin airballed or clanged
By this, do you mean...? - His game plan was to finish with small ball last night - His game plan was to give Harden the first blow when Lin and Asik normally gets it first - His game plan to finish with PPat as oppose to MM - His game plan to let Delfino play during the 4th instead of Parsons against Atlanta
I know this has probably been though of by everyone at least in passing...but could it be to boost TD's trade value, or to figure out if he's competent enough at running the point to re-sign him, or where he falls on the PG spectrum with respect to his potential replacement/backup PBev?
The ppp among each players has been spread out evenly (other than GS). This actually suggest that the difference between running Douglas ISO and Lin's PnR has little impact to the game, Yet when GS is on the floor, the Rox should play more PnR.
Lol no, calling McHale a bad coach would be an insult to bad coaches everywhere, not just based on what he is doing with the Rockets but his history. Our game plan is to give the ball to Harden and watch him make magic. Even Bill and Bull said the team does not run any plays or sets, they just play pick up basketball because thats what McHale is asking of them. Without Harden, our record would have been downright horrible and would have exposed McHale. Compare the team when McHale coaches and back when he was out. They actually ran plays back then, instead of give Harden the ball and gtfo
I completely disagree with this. From what I've seen it's been the complete opposite; maybe that's cause there's more gelling on the team at this point, but with McHale's return, we've seen more set plays, more screens, more pindown plays, more baseline cuts, and LESS ISO for Harden.
His history in Min indeed shows his a good coach... He increased the winning rate of Min by at least 11%from the former and the next coaches...
