parsons had 10 rebounds tonite too. it could have something to do with the hornets having a frontline consisting of scrubs and their team ranking 24th in rebounding overall..

So your saying that he played hard just this night, but not every other night when he had more minutes and was starting? This is the NBA: he plays hard every night. You know who is even softer than Patterson? Marcus Morris, our starting PF.

Then why did Asik only have eight rebounds? And Morris only 4 rebounds with nearly the same PT as Patterson?

This. AND, I want to see Patterson dish out an elbow or TEN when the opposing team roughs up Lin with dirty screens and hard fouls the ENTIRE game.

Have you ever played the game of basketball competitively before? Unless that person has a motor issue (in which Patterson has NONE), people will probably play at the same motor/energy whether they are on the bench or not. I'm sure PPat had the same energy when he was scoring 5 consecutive 20 point games in the STARTING lineup.

wait, so if he has no motor issue then why doesn't he get double digit rebs every game? is it b/c he doesn't get to be matched up against scrubs every game, ya think?

Patterson is good against the bench players of other teams and allows him to get his confidence up. He's not a good match with Asik and the teams starts out games slow. Also, Morris spaces the floor much better and draws the PF from under the basket for Harden, Lin, and Asik.

Bottom line, please keep him coming off the bench and if he's playing better let him finish the game as he did tonight.

No. I am just defending what is right: he is the best PF on our team, deserves to start, and quite frankly, is underrated by fans here. His defence is great: for example, this game Anderson went 6-15, but on all of his shots but one, Patterson was there with his hand in his face (was at the game sitting pretty close). You could rarely play better defence, and you just tip your hat to the opposing player for the good shot. New Year's eve, he had excellent defence on Horford and Smith (Horford only got one layup on him). Thing is, people mainly look to quantify defence, and you just can't.

It is because he was not sharing minutes with Asik. We are about 28 games into the season and yall haven't realized any PF we put near Asik will not rebound as well. Morris was a better rebounder off the bench with less minutes. Why? He did not play with Asik mainly. The same thing is showing with PPat. It is more than just a coincidence: it has happened all year long. And guess what? Morris has supposedly rebounded terribly while playing in the starting five.

Honestly, I don't understand why it is such a big deal. We are a top 10 rebounding team: this is blown way out of proportion.

You see, I have sympathy for somebody playing on a bum ankle. It is hard to rebound over the best athletes when you are limited. Seeing that he had surgery on it, it really affected him, and probably made him learn to box out better because he couldn't jump. Everything is in context.

Patterson has ALWAYS been a soft rebounder. Granted it is only about 2 seasons of tape but he rarely gets double digit rebounding numbers or even tries. He plays more like a finesse PF then one willing to do dirty work down low. Last night, was probably one of his best games but can we expect the same when confronting a more physical team? History says no and that is why people dog Patterson, he hasn't proven anything consistently.

Even his defense which was great perimeter defense last season has taken a hit his season. There will be a few games when he shows up but when he gets legit time on the floor most games all you are getting is another jump shooter. Maybe this battle for starting position might change the way he plays but one game isn't enough IMO to crown him the best PF to start yet.

So then you agree he's been playing soft, but you simply excuse him.

I also think he's a great guy and teammate. But for whatever the reason may be, he has not been a consistent rebounder or protector of the paint the past season and a half. And looking to the future, I'm not entirely sure that he's the answer for us at the 4 spot if we have aspirations of becoming an elite team.
