    Anand is World Champion last I recall, but I think Carlsen pulled out of a couple of them in protest in the past. In terms of FIDE ratings, Carlsen's been ranked 1 or 2 for the past 2 or 3 years - I don't think Anand is ranked in the top 5 anymore. Carlsen's still young and will keep improving with Kasparov's help (if he's still coaching him). I doubt Anand will get too much better at his age.
