I seemed to gather from the article that very few photographs could be recovered from the confiscated cameras. Unfortunately the lack of physical evidence probably makes this harder to prove or prosecute criminally. I also don't know how you get the kids to corroborate their own references to rape on the recording (which I don't plan to watch), it could be argued that they knew what they did was wrong, but don't have a firm enough grasp of the legal definition, or might not even be talking in a serious or literal enough tone, for it to be a confession. I've never been a fan of football culture, particularly the manner in which it pigeonholes focused, driven young black men towards non-academic activities in their most intellectually and professionally formative years; but the prospect of incarcerating teenagers with limited evidence seems far worse.

 

I tear up when I think that the girl's life is never going to be the same again. Hopefully she doesn't go onto a path of self destructiveness and paranoia, but it's likely. How do you try to live a normal life after that, especially when half a town don't believe you??. They didn't killed her, but essentially took her life away.

There must have been at least one good kid watching that didn't want to get involved. The quote on my sig would have never been more useful.

 

I'm reading what you say, pouhe, and while I was also thinking before you that they're not exactly telling or confessing to the guilt of actually doing the "killing" or the raping, there has to be some sort of repercussion for being present and not doing something to stop the act. Seems difficult, like you say, to be able to prosecute with such volatile and intricate evidence.

 

Gross, disturbing but hardly surprising.

Even in my high school (here in Houston) students knew of a guy who was a rapist. Nothing I ever heard came anywhere as brutal as what these guys did, but lets just say girls weren't allowed to say no. He got away with it not because he was an athlete (he was a crappy basketball player) but because his father was a rich local celebrity. One girl did try to do something but by threats or a payoff (or most likely both) nothing ever came of it. I still remember overhearing a friend of his openly talking about and defending the rapist's actions to someone else: "Look everybody knows what he does, if you don't want it to happen don't go with him to an empty room" That sounded terrible then, it sounds horribly disgusting now.

 

I wonder how much of this stuff is hidden
because money/privleges and power is so 'persuasive' in our society

Who knows how long it would take the justice system to even move on this? Reading this story reminded me to look up another enraging gang rape story of an 11 year old that happened nearby in Cleveland, Texas two years ago. They JUST finished the first conviction for that case, and there was video of that crime too. And they included some of the outrageous quotes the defense tried to throw out there too. Can't believe some people.

 

She was an ex-girlfriend of one of the football players, seemed like this was his "revenge" on her for breaking up with him. Disgusting

it's very simple. if you rape someone, and there's enough evidence to prove your guilt...you're getting your thing chopped.

 

99% of all people would be surprised what you can get away with if you have connections.

 

These things are just so depressing. I'm not a parent and I know nothing about parenting, but I would have to think that if this is my daughter, I would have to see to it personally that someone suffers for what happened. Whether the rapists were 16 or 18 would make no difference.

That guy in Shiner got beat to death for trying to molest a child. I was alright with that.

 

And I'll repeat what I just said, the majority would be surprised what you can get away with if you have the right connections.

Granted, not nearly all of Freemasons wield any legit influence or power to the point where they can get way with murder.
