I knew you would say this. ;)
These "certain" people that deserve the wealth are not losing their wealth. You act as if all their money is being taken away when they are a success. This is simply not true.
That's not what I am saying.

I get distributive justice. I also believe a society with such is of a higher moral form than a society without. I also get progressive income tax system based on one's ability to contribute to the good of the society. I think the tax rates should reflect fairness of such contribution. I get all that.
However what I don't get is a blanket tax increase sole based on income, a nothing or extra tax based on that income threshold. There is no progressiveness in this. How is it fair?

I'm curious where this number came from. I recall the "$200 million per day" trip to India which was touted by the right a few years ago, but inevitably a load of bull. However, $7 million for a week in Hawaii with Air Force One and the typical entourage doesn't seem terribly outlandish.

Presidents deserve to spend Christmas with their family. Obama is from Hawaii. If he hadn't flown back to D.C. to deal with the "fiscal cliff" junk, you'd be outraged. Now you're outraged that he did so because it cost money to return to his vacation. Do you think Presidents shouldn't be allowed to take a full Christmas vacation?

QFT. However why have air force one? How about a smaller aircraft or even fly commercial.

Of course not, but there are also people that don't "deserve" their incomes that are less than, say 200k and don't add positively to a society. Maybe we should have tax system based on hours worked, equipment owned, the number of people employed and as well as income.

I haven't read much about the bill but I did hear that FICA taxes went up for everyone.

Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will face an average tax increase of $822.

That's everyone who draws a paycheck BTW.

I didn't read much else. Can anyone point to the spending decreases?

Now I understand your position... My concern is whom decides which tax payers are special and do not pay as high a rate? Very unlikely you get public agreement and most people don't want the tax man having that discretion.

You stated hours worked, people can commit fraud easily.

    What a damned travesty.

If we get everybody here to donate .9 cents to make up the difference, will you go away?

Is this a hypothetical or are you starting to get it? Grover Norquist is pretty pleased with Obama now making permanent the tax cuts to the many in the over $250k crowd and those who stand to inherit over $5 million per year.

On the Young Turks on Current TV I saw a sad, but sort of black humor compilation, of the dozens of video clips of Obama proclaiming over and over that he would restore the pre-Bush taxes on the over $250 thousand crowd and even in one claiming that it was a central plank of his campaign.
