LOL. There WAS a cop there. He WAS shouting commands at him to stop and put his hands up. He did the exact opposite, he scrambled out of the truck and then reached for something.

I don't have to ASSUME anything, he disobeyed the officer, attempted to leave the vehicle hurriedly, and did not keep his hands where they could be seen (even worse, he reached for something suddenly).

Those are the facts. That requires no assumption on my part. You are assuming the best.

No cop ever "knows" they're going to use a gun. And they're sure as hell not going to call the paramedics until the scene is secure.

And, in case you couldn't tell, this was a stakeout... they were waiting for the guy to show up.

Paramedics have better things to do than wait around all day for a violent felon to show up so they can treat him in the unlikely event he gets shot while being apprehended... if he even shows up at all.

If I was a cop, there would be absolutely no way I would be busting out a 1-shot taser in a potentially life threatening situation.

No, you are wrong. I am right.

So develop the technology. Taser >>>> knife.

Sorry for the double post. The fact still remains the U.S. has far more gun-related killings than any other developed country.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ed-killings-than-any-other-developed-country/

Number of gun related deaths in the U.S. (2011) - 40,000
Number of gun related deaths in Chile - 500

I hate that Chile is that close because they are a small country and the few undeveloped parts are really poor which causes their gun-related killings per 100,000 to seem much worse than it is.

Guns will NEVER go away. EVER. No officer in his right mind would go into a potentially dangerous situation armed with only a taser OR have to make a split second decision to draw his pistol or his taser.

Still waiting on that link that shows that police officers shot at least 1400 innocent people in 2011 OR you can admit you pulled that number out of your a#@ and have no idea what that number is.

Based on this information, that the guy was indeed at home and the reason they were there was merely for a parole violation....it seems that it was excessive force.

What's even weirder is that the cop didn't just know his name, but his nick name. Which means they had conversations in the past and knew each other.

I mean, the cop has to let him get out of the vehicle for him to put his hands up...he didnt even have both feet on the ground.

And the cop claiming he had a weapon is strange as well. Anyway, "Ernie" didn't help himself by getting out of the truck and not putting his hands up.

Both of these guys acted in a way that was not smart.

In the time it took me to read this thread, cops shot 3 innocent civilians. R.I.P.

From the 1900's until now jackass. There was and still is a lot of corruption in America, especially in the poorer states. It's getting better, but it needs to improve.

From the YouTube description, "Ernest Duenez, Jr...was allegedly killed by "police" Just this past Tuesday, 12/11/12, the DA declared the officer as being "justified" in his 13 shots released."

I mixed up the dates, sorry for the confusion.

Yes we do have those in Australia, they work pretty well, but people have still died from them.

Very unfortunate incident. That said, if you try to reach for something when a cop is pointing a gun at you, you are just asking to be shot. You are an idiot if you think the cop is 100% at fault in his case.

The key word there is "reliable" what incapacitates one person might do nothing to another or might kill someone else. Human sizes and metabolisms are very different and then put on top that police are dealing with people in various states of stress, anxiety and chemical influence and it is almost impossible to make an incapacitation weapon that precisely incapacitates most humans.

I have been critical of police before but have also trained in martial arts with police. I think rather than developing better weapons better training in threat assessment, deescalation, and non lethal restraint is what police need.

Suspect is known to be ARMED & DANGEROUS.
Say what you will but a criminal scumbag piece of **** like him should get NO benefit of the doubt. Especially a repeat offender. Foot caught in the seatbelt? Karma. I have no sympathy for criminal scum.

For once, I'm siding with the cop.

All we know is he violated his parole and the officer thought he saw a knife (which there wasn't). The officer was responding to an earlier domestic disturbance call which happens every day.

What makes you think he is scum?
