You should probably calm down. There are a lot of people on this BBS who believe we need an "elite" QB to win a Superbowl. You've been a gigantic dick since Sunday afternoon. I realize that was a tough loss, but you really need to chill.
no Donny, you're out of order! the whole freaking system is outta order! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLfrfxPk8f4
No wins and no #1 seed make Clutchfans go crazy... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5yGJGTjV2WE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Sure they can. Those Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees teams didn't have great running games and defenses. Green Bay had a great defense, but their running game was absolutely terrible. The 2006 Colts had the 14th ranked scoring defense out of 16 AFC teams and a below average running game. The 2009 Saints defense was ranked 10th out of 16 NFC teams, but had a good running game. Brady has lost some Superbowls recently, but he's carried teams with all sorts of other flaws to that level. If Schaub has those quality of defense and running game, the Texans would struggle to make the playoffs and look like they did the last few weeks. But those teams can still win because of the elite QB. The reality is that it's hard to have an elite QB, running game, and defense so you have to pick and choose. The argument for the elite QB model is that it only takes one position to be good. Having Peyton Manning puts you in the playoffs almost by himself. Then you have to have a good running game or defense, and you can win a SB. With the game manager QB, you need every other piece to work exactly right. The argument against an elite QB model is that it's a pain in the ass to find one, so it makes sense to try to be great everywhere else. There's no right or wrong way to build a team, but it's a hell of a lot easier to win a title if you have an elite QB because he can overcome other flaws. Whether it's easier to chase an elite QB or try to excel in every other phase is an open question. But this is why people were arguing for chasing Manning this last offseason. Even if you have to cut a few players to pay for him, he likely is worth more than Schaub + the players you cut.
Of recent . . . Kubiak and Schaub have not managed the game well. Too many 3 and outs Too many 'safe' plays. If you on the 35 . . .an interception at the 1 beats a missed field goal from the 40 TAKE A CHANCE sometimes! Rocket River
Brady was never better than both his running game and his defense in any of the years he actually won a Superbowl. (2001 defense was better, 2003 defense was better, 2004 running game was better) The Patriots defenses of the early 2000's may not be considered "great", but they were a top 5 unit of their day.
Sure - but Brady has also made the playoffs and made the Superbowl at times when he was the central key to the team. To win a Superbowl, you first have to make the playoffs, so that's a huge piece of the puzzle - and then you have to hope your team gets hot and maybe lucky at the right time. For example, unless you believe in the Mack Brown philosophy of just looking at outcomes over process, going to a Superbowl and losing on some miracle plays doesn't mean that that the way that the team was constructed as an offensive juggernaut built around Brady was not a good way to win a Superbowl.
Careful, you just insinuated that just making the Superbowl was enough of an accomplishment to designate someone as sufficient as a quarterback. The Clutchfans crazies will tear you apart for that. Me personally, I'd love to make it to a Superbowl, win lose or draw. But these folks, they won't be happy with Schaub until he actually wins a Superbowl for us single-handedly. And even then, they'd probably find ways to not give him credit for it.
On a sidenote, amazing that the 2011 Giants that beat Brady had the 32nd ranked running offense and 25th ranked defense in the league. I guess it shouldn't be as surprising as it seemed that they missed the playoffs this year.
They barely squeaked into the playoffs last year, so yeah, not a huge shocker. But that defense was a turnover and sack machine, per usual.
I don't think Eli fits any typical description of a QB. He's mediocre in many ways, but he gets on bizarre runs that are simply incredible.
eli has above average skills and hes stepped up his play on the largest stage, twice. he may never be considered elite but i'd have no problems with him leading my team into the playoffs.. im sure there are a few teams that are ecstatic, they wont have to face him this season..
Meh, a QB either is or isn't elite. Anyone can go on a hot streak, even Alex Smith. You don't need an elite QB to win, but it helps (duh).
Except he didn't lead his team into the playoffs this year. Above average skills, which isn't that unanimously agreed upon, held back by bad decision making and those teams you're referring are just as glad they're not playing the Giants DL than the Giants QB.
I remember back in the day . ..they had the QB skills competition no rush . . . just basically some drills I think 'If all 32 QBs were in this competition . .. where would Schuab fall . . .Top 10? Rocket River
Considering Alex Smith isn't Dan Marino, he had a pretty good playoffs last year: vs N.O. He threw for 300 3TD's 0 Int's and had a 28yd rushing TD vs. NYG He threw for 200 2TD's 0 Int's and had 42 yd's rushing If you said that Matt Schaub would have those stat lines vs Cinci and New England, Clutchfans would have already been preparing for the Parade!
