I like it. By not releasing him and continuing to fine him, he 1) doesn't get paid, and 2) can't go anywhere else and play. Do we really need the roster space to pick up a player that won't even dress for games?

I think the problem is that Royce went from shame at his mental illness to point of pride (in terms of all the positive press on 'dealing with it') too quickly.

His positive self image is built around him being the 'crusader for mental health'.

I think that if he drops the identity as crusader, he again becomes 'Royce the weak crazy problem child' that he probably completely loathes.

As a result, I hypothesize that Royce is programmed with a need find a way to 'fight the man'. Lacking any real issues he will create them.

I dont think he is the calculating evil genus he has been made out to be.

Instead, he is a self-hating child doing anything he can to run away from himself. Until he learns to be comfortable with his own weakness/flaws, he's going to pick fights with authority to distract himself from himself.

To recap what was covered in the last White thread: he can avoid fines if he either shows up for work or sees the team doctor. When the fines started stacking up, he complained on twitter then relented and started seeing the team doc. If he is still seeing the doc, he is not getting fined.

So it's the "protocol", of which we know nothing about, that stands in the way now.

Maybe that protocol includes the Rockets sending him to NBDL is not an option?

I'm guessing the protocol includes him showing up for work. #GetYourAssToWork!

He's said in his statement and his tweet that the Rockets were trying to make decisions that he feels only medical professionals are qualified to make. What these decisions are, he doesn't specify.

IIRC he did say he is willing to go to the D-league, if the Rockets abide by the conditions, whatever they may be.

He is just a big homer of Royce, followed him since his college days. If kmav is looking to defend RW, he is fighting a losing battle. Sympathy, he will get none here.

Of course he won't ever clarify what "medical situations" are.

"Royce, let's do some lay-up drills."
"You can't force me to do that. You're not a medical professional and don't understand what it would be like for me, specifically, to do this."

"Royce, you're playing for the Vipers tomorrow night."
"You can't force me to do that. You're not a medical professional and don't understand what it would be like for me, specifically, to do this."

"Royce, practice this morning will be 4 hours. Here is the agenda."
"You can't force me to do that. You're not a medical professional and don't understand what it would be like for me, specifically, to do this."

    Followed by:
"The Rockets make decisions based on business. I won't stand for that. Doctors need to make the world's decisions."

Well. There's no way to win this is there?

When someone has anxiety, any "worries" / "issues" tend to get magnified to a pretty high level.

That is why while most of us have "some fear" of flying, most of us get past it just fine.

All of this being said, I'm a little confused if Royce has a fear of flying (a pretty specific phobia) or GAD. GAD will cause a person to have worries about anything or everything.

Aubrey Huff of the SF Giants had GAD which was treated by seeing someone and meds. I know of others who feel GAD is just an overreactive protection mechanism and that it can be overcome (over time) by doing the things you fear.

For Royce, I feel for the guy but GAD doesn't prevent you from playing basketball (or traveling). He may have some weird feelings but I think that can be overcome in time.

Royce - time to get to work buddy.

At this point it seems like he is angling for a release. It's his M.O., leaving behind situations (H.S. and college) gone awry for a new start, instead of sticking it through and making it work.

Yes, it does sound absurd on the surface. But we don't know the specifics or the extent of these decisions that he's referring to.

And if they were simple or reasonable conditions, I'm sure the Rockets would have said yes to them a long time ago.
