Don't forget the 2002 Patriots, 2006 Steelers, and 2008 Giants. All teams that were absolutely carried by great defenses.
so the texnas dont have an elite quarter back or an elite defense. what now? keep on taking chances on qb's in hope of finding the next aaron rodgers thus the possibly of going through decades of suckage to find that elite qb?
No, Schaub was bad today... He personally left quite a few points off the board. I am not saying he is the worst in the NFL or that the Texans should even change at this point.. But he was bad today.
i want a qb that is an alpha, sick and tired of these p*****s being in charge of the team... kubiak/schaub a match made in heaven..
I disagree with those that say our problem is organizational. Want to see a program with organizational issues, look at the Texas Longhorns. Unlike the Longhorns, we have players improve during their time here. Unlike the Longhorns, we have players who were not expected to contribute who are integral parts of our team. Unlike the Longhorns, most of the players who we bring in to be stars end up being stars. What we don't have is elite talent at a number of critical positions. We are flat out not good enough at parts of the OL, WR after Dre, LB after Cushing and Reed, and the DL after Watt. Now, I know we have favorite players at all these positions but they could all be improved. We also have a head coach who is your worst nightmare when things are going poorly. He is regimented, calm, and unemotional. These things are great for a winning team. They are about the worst thing possible for a team spiraling downward. He never panics, but sometimes it would be nice to see a sense of urgency. Now for Schaub. He is good enough to win a Super Bowl. He is not good enough to be THE REASON a team wins a Super Bowl. The conversation about him being an "elite" QB is over. Brady, Brees, Manning, and Rodgers have all won bigtime games with less talented teams than this Texans one. An elite QB could win a Super Bowl with our current roster. We either need to get that QB, or improve the issues discussed above and I don't know which is the easier route. The current path will not work however.
How is that the exception? More like the new normal. Rookie QBs starting from the jump has become commonplace. The Dolphins won 7 games this year w/a rookie QB. Cincy went to the playoffs last year with one. Flacco, Sanchez, Matt Ryan before them did well. The Texans could easily grab a QB in the early rounds of the draft, trade Schaub and still be happy about their present.
LOL. One year does not overturn 50 years of precedence. Besides, the heart of the argument was Superbowl contention. 1st/2nd year QBs don't win those often. P.S. Flacco, Ryan, and Sanchez do not inspire confidence when it comes to winning Superbowls either.
Two of those three have better chances and inspire more confidence than Schaub. That is a fact. Schaub hasn't proven anything yet. To be fair, Ryan really hasn't either, but he has made the playoffs three times already.
Not just one year. I referenced more than one year and several QBs in addition to the several you had already mentioned. You just saying this year is an exception doesn't make it so. If you can't see there's a clear trend of rookie QBs playing right away and being successful, you're blind. QB-friendly rule changes in the NFL and pro-style offenses in college have helped make it the new normal.
my belief in Schaub just went down the ****ter today. it hurts so much because i really thought he had enough talent to take us to the promised land. i'm crushed. i feel like he let me down personally. i don't think TJ Yates is the answer but I know Schaub isnt. all the schaub-haters can pile on with your "I told you so's." i can't defend Schaub anymore. but we're all in the same boat. you're suffering as i am because he's here to stay.
