Royce White refuses assignment to D-League (UPDATE: Rockets suspend him)

Royce agreed to the terms of the contract and the rules of the CBA when he signed the contract. If he is unwilling to meet the obligations of that contract then the Rockets should just suspend him for the remainder of the season with out pay for failure to meet the terms of the contract.

If the terms of his contract were not conducive to his mental health then he and his agent should have addressed those needs prior to him signing the contract. It's not a surprise that he waited until he started getting paid before voicing any concern over mental health protocol.

It's very clear that Royce does not value his basketball career, it's just not high on his list of priorities. When your employer is an NBA franchise, they pay you millions partly so you will make basketball a top priority. Royce just needs to join a blues band or become a poet, he is doing no one any good in his current state unless his only goal is to collect as many free paychecks as possible from an NBA franchise before getting cut.

 

Just think on the bright side - Parsons is going to make A LOT more money than White in the future.

The good thing is Royce has always wasted his first season with every team he's been on, and gone on to be productive in subsequent years.

 

I find it ironic that a person with a fear of flying is on a team named rockets.

 

What seems clear to me is that the Rockets certainly had to have entertained the scenario in which White declined. And they also had to have thought through what they would do afterwords if he did. So whatever the Rockets next move, we shouldn't have to wait long to see it. The sooner the better I think.

Really a shame but I agree with suspending him without pay. He shouldn't be taking the money while acting as if money/business is so low on his priority list.

He will never answer the simple question: What Protocols do you need in place before you can safely play basketball with the big boys?

 

I was just about to ask this. I think they should suspend without pay. I guarantee after missing a couple checks, he will do whatever it takes to get back. But he has no motivation to get back if he is still getting paid.

 

Let's see who can tweet the most vulgar things to Royce and get a reply.
