Royce White refuses assignment to D-League (UPDATE: Rockets suspend him)

If the recommendation is something like "Keep him round the Rockets teammates and don't send him into the unfamiliar DLeague environment," I can see how it's arguable that the team would accommodate him. If it has to do with giving White minutes for therapeutic reasons, or do anything on court, then I can see how such an accommodation would not be reasonable. There are 14 other players on the team plus coaches, who have their own needs to be mer (primarily, winning games). Would be ridiculous to accommodate one guy by sacrificing everyone else's interest.

 

He is stealing money from the Rockets right now. Can't they just void his contract ? What an embarrassment for Morey.

Royce certainly shouldn't expect the rewards of being an NBA player if he won't fulfill any of his obligations. If it comes to litigation, I'm sure the Rockets will come out ahead. But like Les said, it'd be a shame to waste a pick.

Not really. You can just cut White. You can cut anyone, James Harden included, you just have to pay the guaranteed portion of their contract and have it reflected on your cap numbers.

Why would any team or work environment want such a cancer in their midsts?

I work in a highly dynamic and team driven environment, and I've seen co-workers rip up dead weight who don't try to shreds as their way of rejecting the distraction.

Royce hasn't practiced much with others, ridden the team buses, or have done anything to show he's committed to being in the trenches. Think he'll do the rookie hazing rituals of buying donuts, doing laundry or giving Sampson a body bath?

That's discrimination man. Doing laundry's an OSHA violation somewhere.

 

He probably got his own PCP from his childhood to say that yanking him back and forth from Houston to the Vipers would be bad for his "consistency" or something like that and Morey said that is the way the Rockets do things.

 

Cap room is not the point, it's making sure this fool is not getting free money. As it is, we are on the hook for this year and next (next year $1.7m).

 

I think the whole situation is too vague to even have an opinion on it. It seems that to choose a side is not the right move yet especially when no one is specific. Who knows what is going on internally. The guy seems to be searching for something that is not present within the organization. Whether it be a spiritual void or whatever, idk. I understand it to a certain degree but not sure about what exactly is going on.

The free money is chump change. Don't make a basketball difference. Les is of course free to go after it since it is his money. But getting it back won't do much for the on court product, which is really all I care about. Not sure why people are worried for Les's bank account.

Find it hard to get seriously outraged over this when guys liken Jerome James and Eddy Curry took home many times as much money for no work. **** like this happens with regularity in the NBA.
