Doc Scheppler is fine. Lin shot terribly in his rookie year. Doc coached Lin late in the 2011 summer and totally changed his form. Lin's shooting improved a lot. He coached Lin again this past summer. Lin was doing well during the summer because he was practising it everyday for hours. After the season started Lin (said he) got away from some of the small details in his shooting form like following through etc. He just have to remember every small detail and practise his shooting form until it becomes natural to him.

He shot well in the Spurs game where he scored 38 pts. so it's not like he can't do it, it's he's not good at doing it naturally and on a regular basis. It particular shows when they're on the road because when they play at home Lin will spend extra time everyday and pre-game practising his shots.

Also in the summer of 2011 Lin was recovering from an injury so in the beginning Doc was actually coaching Lin's little brother Joe when Lin observed. Apparently Joe is now a very good 3-pt shooter, better than Lin.

Don't blame the shooting coach ;)

Lin is great at setting people up, getting assists, and making the unselfish play....but you can't only be good at that.

To truly be a good point guard, you have to have a sound offensive game, and you have to be able to be a threat from the outside. The only proven exception to this right now is Rondo, and even he is solid enough, but also has far and away elite skills when it comes to defense, steals, rebounding, passing, etc.

Simply put...Lin must improve his offense. You can only live off layups and drives for so long.

Is he really still coaching Lin?
Jeremy's got the opportunity to hire the best professional shooting coaches in the NBA and he's getting taught by a girl's high school coach? Plz tell me it ain't so!

He lives in California. He coaches Lin during the off season only. During the season it's the Rockets coaches.

No no no nonon onoononononono nononnononnnooooooooo.

Sorry, but Doc making his little brother "a very good 3-pt shooter" doesn't equate to enabling Lin to compete with the best bball players on earth.

If you really want what's best for Lin's success, you put sentiment aside, and get him working with the best in the biz.

    ????

I don't get your point. Lin shoots a higher percentage than Kyle, Lin has more assist per game than Kyle, Lin has more steals per game than Kyle.

I noticed that too. If Lin's going to get a new shooting coach(which I doubt), might as well reach for the stars and try to get Ray Allen's coach rather than someone Lowry's worked with.

But who's the best in the biz? And why haven't the other rich guys hired the best in the biz yet? Why hasn't Dwight Howard hired the best in the biz yet?

There's only so much you can coach. Lin was shooting around 80% in training with Doc so there must be something done right. How much he's able to use what he learned in games is up to him. I don't think his talent is limited so I think more practice will make him better.

Novak is still practicing his shots everyday and make at least a hundred before he's done.

His outside shot sucks but it's not like he has horrible form or anything. I'm sure his shot will come around year by year. Think how good he will be when his shot does come around, he has a lot of skill and is a smart player.

I agree. Besides, Lin gets knocked down to the floor a lot when he attacks the rim. I get that he's young and absolutely fearless, but if he wants to have a very long NBA career, minimizing those hard falls and having another offensive weapon would only help.

Maybe JLin should take a few days from practicing his 3pt shot. Get a fresh start.

He does need to work on his 3pt shot, unfortunately this will probably happen in a season or two. I've never seen a player be able to do it mid season.

i dont think taking few games off will fix that. he should continue playing and then practice contested 3 point shots everyday

I don't mean for JLin not to take game off. But to lay off the 100's of practice shot he must be taking every day.

It's ironic that one of the best shooting coach was hired by the Knicks as a special assistant this year. I am sure the Knicks wouldn't mind him giving JLin a few pointers.

    quick google..
"The three clubs that have employed shooting coaches for multiple years—the Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers—have made at least slight improvements in shooting rates. Since hiring shooting coach Gary Boren in 1997, the Mavs have gone from 25th in free-throw shooting and 27th in three-point shooting to first and third, respectively.

Since hiring Billy Keller as shot director in 2007, the Pacers have posted the league's fifth-highest free-throw percentage and eighth-highest rate from behind the arc (up from 19th and 18th, respectively). Since the Spurs hired Chip Engelland in 2005, San Antonio has gone from eighth to third in three-point shooting, and moved up one spot, to 25th, in foul shooting."

There are plenty others who do this as a profession out there. It's not disloyal just to try other options, especially if you are trying to help yourself.
