No, everyone here (I hope) would take Leonard for Patterson. It's just insane for the Spurs.

Do you think the Rockets would trade Parsons for DeJuan Blair, if the Spurs took Delfino and gave some sweeteners?
If not, then why do you think the Spurs would be interested in a similarly bad reversed deal?

Delfino has a team option. If we add a pick and White (he might raise his value by the end of the season) they may do it. They are not playing Leonard much. Patterson has to raise his stock for this to happen though. The Spurs need that $4 million cap tied up in Bonner next season.

As mentioned before, Bonner has only 1 mil guaranteed next season. Patterson costs 3.1 mil next season. Leonard under 1.9 mil. Bonner 1 mil. In other words, it's cheaper to cut Bonner and keep Leonard, than pay Patterson.

So if you still want to create a trade that's based on the Spurs saving money, you have to think of something different.

Also, as mentioned before, they don't need to clear cap. They are in a great situation next year.

Leonard is 4th on their roster in terms of minutes per game. The Spurs are simply a very deep team that's been blowing many teams out. Kawhi is one of their core players, but their core players don't play long minutes.

Kawhi is a very good 21 year old wing who's showing tremendous upside. If your deal was Parsons + a lottery pick or two, I could see some fairness in that. But you want them to take on money in a deal that gives them lesser players with far less upside.

Now, one can dream of Patterson suddenly breaking out and raising his trade value by a ton. Or White somehow raising his trade value a lot and starting to look like a legit top 5 talent in last draft. But those are dreams at this point.

Cook, Delfino, Aldrich, Morris, White ($ 1/2 of White's buy out), D-Mo & other 1/2 of our 1st rounder(if it happens) and our 2nd rounder --> we pick then trade the player for something very small on draft day IF it happens at all PLUS our second round pick.
    ..for..
Andrea Bargnani, Landry Fields & Terrence Ross

This will pull them out of salary cap hell for the next 2 years. While replacing each player with a rotation player and players with promise as well. This opens up time for Valanciunas, too. The trade makes them a better team this year (Bargnani hand & Fields elbow) and rounds out the team going forward with only a few dud contracts.

We can take on contacts with all the rookies on the team they will fall off the cap by the time we start to pay for the 2012 rookies, Parsons and Smith.

    Thoughts?

lin, asik, morris, Patterson for cousins, Evans, salmons as core of trade. Add in prospects and/or draft picks to make this work.

    Terrible idea!

Both Andrea Bargnani and Fields contracts are 3-year and terribly overpaid. Why would you want to help them while Rockets will lose flexibility?

How will we sign a star free agent for the next two summers?

DMo is similar to Bargnani. Both are offensive big men who lack the defensive and rebounding skills.

The Spurs are a deep team with a lot of wing players and Pop is a long-term planner. That's the reason why Kawhi doesn't get 30+ MPG. They're just as high on him as they have been last season. He's a core Spurs piece and they would laugh at that trade.

That thing with the pick is illegal.

Re the trade itself, it feels about right from Toronto's perspective, I don't think they'd take anything less. But Houston would have to refuse, it screws up their flexibility too much.
    I like Ross, though.

    Here are a few ideas:

Trade #1: DeMarcus Cousins and Francisco Garcia (contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season) to Houston; Omer Asik, Royce White, and Terrence Jones to Sacramento

Trade #2: Richard Hamilton and the Bulls' 2013 lottery-protected first round pick to Houston; Scott Machado to Chicago

    Sign Patrick Beverly

    Buy out Richard Hamilton

    Sign James Anderson

    2012-13 roster

    Starting lineup

    PG Jeremy Lin
    SG James Harden
    SF Chandler Parsons
    PF Marcus Morris
    C DeMarcus Cousins

    Key reserves

    Carlos Delfino
    Toney Douglas
    Greg Smith
    Patrick Patterson

End of the bench (little or no P.T.)

    Daequan Cook
    Cole Aldrich
    Francisco Garcia

    Developmental league

    Donatas Motiejunas
    Patrick Beverly
    James Anderson

2013 offseason: Let Toney Douglas, Daequan Cook, and Cole Aldrich (all free agents) walk; exercise $3.0 mil team option on Carlos Delfino; replace these three guys on the 15-man roster with whoever is drafted with the Bulls pick, maybe Jon Diebler, plus a mystery player with potential.

    2013-14 roster

    Starting lineup

    PG Jeremy Lin
    SG James Harden
    SF Chandler Parsons
    PF Marcus Morris
    C DeMarcus Cousins

    Key reserves

    Carlos Delfino
Patrick Beverly (replaces Toney Douglas in the rotation)
    Greg Smith
    Patrick Patterson

End of the bench (little or no P.T.)

    Donatas Motiejunas
    James Anderson
    Francisco Garcia

    Developmental league

    2013 Bulls pick
    Jon Diebler
    Mystery player

I think I wrote it here before, but if I didn't, I'd watch the Nuggets when it comes to Hamilton. They can absorb him with a trade exception, they have the tax room, and they could use another guard atm. I wonder if they'd even ask for additional assets from Chicago.

I don't know why people are throwing Royce White into any trade ideas.

Just the thought of another team considering trading for this guy is laughable.

Millsap might be on the move. Hasn't been playing very well so it might be an opportunity for Morey to buy low...

    Not really
If he can find himself his true upside is untapped so there is value within him as a player.
University of Minnesota --> Iowa State University.
Would a team take him on? YES, the Mav's owner said he would. So the question is how much is he worth and to whom?

I do not thing we will not get our money back on him BUT we will get something. We are like the University of Minnesota to him.

The thing is, if Morey wants Millsap, all he needs to do is sign him with cap room in offseason. Makes little sense to pay more than a nominal price to get him a little bit earlier.

This is different than trading for a CP/Dwight type elite player who will become a FA later, there is no way you will need the ability to give extra year/$ to get Millsap in free agency.

The only benefit I can really see is you can S&T Millsap to another team (what we did with Camby and Lee).

Guys we should target: Luol Deng, David Lee, Courtney Lee, Doron Lamb-- i.e. fake Asian players.

I am 99% sure that there isn't 1 team in the entire league who would trade for Royce White at the moment. Not with him calling out his employer on Twitter and refusing to show up to any basketball related events.

GSW are 21-10 with Lee as their top scorer and rebounder. Though I think he would be great fit for Rocket running offense though he know for horrible post defense, how the hell would we get him?
