The Rockets are #2 in 3 pointers attempted #3 in FTs attempted #7 TS% despite #12 in FG%, 2nd in terms of gap between two numbers Lowest % of 2-pt jumpshot of any team in the NBA The Rockets have the youngest team in the NBA, absolutely mistake-ridden on both defense and offense to start the season, only one star and only role players beyond him(Harden and Smith the onlly Rockets with above league average PER fwiw). Yet Number 7 overall in offense. You can say that it's easy to do and every coach preach it. Yet if that's the case, then the Rockets should not be achieving such success. After all, anyone pegged them to have above average NBA talent for this season?
a running team means 1) a younger team 2) a more exciting/entertaining team. a younger team means a cheaper payroll. an exciting team means more eyeballs/media hype which in turn means more revenue. will a running team be a consistent winning team? not necessarily. but Les is a businessman, and it makes perfect $ense.
Yet the Rockets were built around a 7-footer who did not have the stamina to play the up-tempo game, and a wing player who seemed more comfortable in the half-court offense.
oh I agree. I'm just saying the Rockets cant play that kind of game against more talented teams who do the same thing. only way to beat them in a 7 game series is to ugly it up like crazy IMO.
Les is so full of it. How many times did he say, " ( despite everything including a quick exit from the playoffs and recurrent injuries) we will continue to built around Yao and TMac." Season after season.
In other words, we are Adam Dunn. either shoot 3 or get charity stripe. equivalent of either a hr or get a walk. its the third outcome of Adam Dunn that worries me about this team
so they should play half court against those talented teams and get destroyed even worse. with the team we have, this is the best we can do. plus a benefit of having a running team like this is it inflates the stats of most of the players. which means? increased trade value.
This proved that he is a smart businessman. He must empowered his staff and support their decision on Yao and TMac. That did not work due to injuries and other factors. Now Rockets move on with a new team. Baby, we must run and put the ball in the basket. Run, Baby, Run!
That's because this team has Adam Dunn talent, and not Barry Bonds talent or Mark McGuire talent(sorry for old comparisons since I haven't really followed baseball lately). I truly believe Morey when he said that this team would be a crappy half court offense. In fact, it was the main reason why I thought this was a 30 win team, our lack of offensive talent.
I could care 2 shi#%s what Les has to say right now. As far as im concerned he is the Grinch who stole my ability to view the Rockets on television.
Agreed!!!! I am not very happy with him or Jim Crane right now. I live in the Beaumont area and we have ZERO options for the games other than crappy internet feeds.
That's all great and I'm enjoying the current up-tempo offense. But there's no need to play revisionist historian with the public and say he's wanted a running team all these years.
Les must want to sell tickets more than he wants to win championships, because running teams struggle in the playoffs.
If the rox want to beat the thunder and heat in a seven game series they are going to have to play halfcourt and physical. Those teams will not be run out of the building. I'm not saying we can't win with running...we just can't win the big one with it imo.
Tell that to OKC... they had the 5th highest pace in the NBA last season and still made it to the finals. I feel that this is a case of "correlation is not causation". Older teams tend to be more successful due to experience level and typically long running chemistry together. Therefore, older teams have more playoff success. However, when you have an older team, you're less likely to do a lot of running because your players don't have the stamina they once did. So it's not that running can't lead to playoff wins, it's that old teams don't like to run and experience is an important factor of overall success. However, if you happen to have a young team which is talented enough to compete for a title and young enough to run, there is no reason the full court game can't work, as OKC demonstrated last season.
PeppermintCandy, I understand where you came from! Please this is a Sports Business. Hakeem, Yao and TMac were experiments. Some experiment will be very successful and others will fail. Unfortunately, there are only two teams go to NBA Final each year. The leader will rebuild and go on to their next goal and objectives. As a fan, I look forward to the New Rockets, the failure in Yao and TMac is part of a process. It is all history now. Run, Rockets, Run!
yes, of course, obviously. this is why it's inevitable we will have upgrades regarding the roster. no one expects us to win the big one with this current roster. not even les.
