Remember when Asik was considered the key to a successful season? Now, some people are already calling for Smith to start. The kid is a beast.
grateful person worked hard to where he's at right now. didn't complain about going down in the D-league loved the rockets and houston because we were the only team that gave him a chance
Rebounding and defensive fundamentals. He clearly hasn't reached his potential in either of them. He hasn't been terrible, but he's been... well, he's been age 21. From his free throw shooting and watching him shoot around in practice, it seems like he could also add a mid range jumper to his arsenal, which would free up his post game when he starts to get more defensive attention.
Yeah, how off were we? The board, myself included, we were all excited about... White, Dmo, Lamb, and Jones. Who would have thunk it would be... Smith, Douglas, Morris and Delfino who have been so impressive. (And I'm actually still excited about White, Dmo and Jones. And Lamb too, even though he's no longer a Rocket). And then thinking about Parsons, 2nd rounder who is playing so well. And picking up Harden. Asik, Lin. Its been quite a ride.
It will be hard to space the floor for Harden and Lin when both of them (Asik & Smith) are on the court. i.e. Smith needs to improve his mid-range shot.
Does anyone know why exactly all teams passed on Greg Smith? He has terrific size and athleticism, and he is also extremely young coming into the league at 19. He seemed like the perfect project player.
every rockets fans says this every year about some young promising player on the rise. we said the same damned thing about patrick patterson when he was a rookie. The bigger question is whether we'll sing his praises when he's in his mid 20s/early 30s. I'm glad as hell morey found this guy though.
He got the Dallas first round pick for Hill from the Lakers .... Thats a pretty good return for a guy who was a throw in in the McGrady deal. If there were any players he hasnt gotten a good return on its Twill and Scola tho by using the amnesty on Scola it allowed them loads of cap space.
The problem here is everyone look awesome as a project, a lot of guys come into the league with tons of potential. The difference is whether a kid can come in, put in the work despite not getting PT, and develop fast enough in 2-3 years that his team doesn't cut him. Those are all mental traits which can't be distinguished easily, even guys who looked like model players in college became really lazy once they got into the NBA (Okafor, Derrick Williams). I'm extremely happy with Smith, he's looking like a lottery pick type prospect once the coaching staff had his way with him. At only age 21, sky's the limit for him.
