Agree that he's too talented to not take a chance. This isn't some high lottery pick that never lived up to his hype....he's shown he has talent, but for whatever reason regressed this season. His upside is ENORMOUS. Id go DMo + Morris for him.
It's easy to make a misleading argument. As was previously said, Kevin Love makes the three point shot a part of his game. DeMarcus Cousins doesn't. Hence the discrepancy. Cousins' field goal percentage is so low because he's playing on a team that he isn't giving all of his effort at. If you watch the Kings, you'd see Cousins settling for midrange jumpers. If you look back at his shot chart (which was posted earlier), you'd see this. If this guy could get motivated to make an effort and improve his game -- as we've seen with Omer Asik -- he could make large strides as an option in the post for the Rockets. We may be frustrated with his play, as I'm sure many of us are when Asik catches the ball around the basket, but he has the potential to improve and he's a player that would grow better as the entire team matures together. You have to take this risk on this guy. Putting him in an organization on caliber with the Houston Rockets would be great for this guy.
Stats show that he really hasn't made any sort of jump in production, but then again, he plays for the Kings. Nobody plays well there. If morey believes that he can potentially be the guy of the future for us (or be a major asset for that piece), then maybe a package of Jones, Dmo, Aldrich for Cousins and Hayes could be considered. Treat Cousins as a project and have him earn his pt. If he pans out, great. If he doesn't, there's always 2014 or 15 free agency to look towards. This would be a very gutsy move.
WTF? Kevin Love shoots 3 pointers, which means his percentage is comparable to a wing player. Cousins mainly just shoots mid-range Js. Love also gets almost 14 rebs a game which is amazing considering he's playing with rebounding guys like Pek and Kirilenko.

To be fair, I think every team should do their due diligence and try to get Cousins, including the Rox. However, it really all depends on what we would give up to get him, personally I would trade very little for him, he's too big of a risk otherwise IMHO.
Yep, he's not even being paid anything near max so it's not like we are taking on a player with a max deal. In fact you could have him for two years AND THEN go after Love as his contract runs out.
Like being punched in the stomach. My least favorite player coming to my favorite team? Cannot process.
The other problem with Cousins is that even if we got him for something like Royce and Motiejunas...he's a TERRIBLE fit on this team. I assume he would play PF next to Asik, because I don't even want to think how he would react to being benched and Asik at this point is a massively superior center. But if you put him at the 4, the spacing on this team becomes terrible. Parsons is mediocre at the 3, Beardsanity both prefer to slash and drive into the paint rather than shoot, and now you have Asik with no range and Cousins who thinks he has range but doesn't. The current lineup needs a 4 who can shoot at minimum the 18 footer like Scola did ( I wish we had him still because he had a post game too, but oh well) and preferably the 3 (which Patterson and Morris can do). Cousins doesn't help with that at all. Combine that with the massive risks in taking him on, the fact that I'm sure Morey is freaking tired of gambling on talented idiots since we still owe a first round pick due to an earlier attempt, and I'm very sure it's not happening.
Cousins would see success as a center in this league , and you are already committed to paying a guy 15 million. While playing pwer forward he would be an upgrade, but would slow the team down.
Love has been bad this year, but his hand is injured and he gets some leeway because we know he can produce given what he's done. Cousins has neither excuse. There's a much higher chance that Love will return to how he has played in the past than Cousins will arrive to become a big man who plays well.
Check out his TS%, it's around Cousin's level. The difference is Love's playing injured, while Cousins is just pouting and throwing tantrums. IMHO Love shouldn't even be playing, it's probably because he can't take the losing anymore. Once Love recovers expect his shooting to go up, it's not like he's been shooting 36% his whole career.
Exactly. Love needs to shut it down for another month or so. He has two separate injuries to his shooting hand at this point, and now some kind of eye injury as well. lol at comparing the performance of Pirate Kevin Love, with a hook for a hand and an eyepatch, to a fully functional Crybaby Cousins
That's all fine. But the argument I'm replying to is "Greg Smith is better than DeMarcus Cousins". There's not much room for "proven" or "we know" in that conversation.
It's not so good. Cousins has a 23 inch vertical leap and isn't much of a shotblocker (0.6 blocks per game) even when he's pretending to care. He is downright clumsy when he shows on defense, and his lack of agility will often hinder him on switches. The key to beating Sacramento, for other teams, was often to make Cousins try to play defense. It was to go right at him. Lost in the discussion about Cousins as a supposed offensive talent, instead of just an offensive person, is the fact that he routinely makes the people he's guarding look like superstars. He wouldn't have a place on many, many NBA teams that value defense in their frontcourt players. He'd get run out of town in Chicago, for instance.
