To be fair depending on your definition of superstar, Lin already qualifies based on popularity

By the time All Star Weekend comes around I have a sneaking suspicion Lin will have done enough on the court to warrant his spot. Lets just say I had a feeling he would start to play strongly after a few months into the season and he's proven me right so far..

So based on the first ballot returns, starters would be:
    west:
    Kobe
    CP3
    KD
    Blake
    Howard

    East:
    Wade
    Rondo
    Carmelo
    Lebron
    KG

If you are going strictly on MERIT, you could very easily argue that Kobe, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Wade, and Garnett are all very undeserving of a starting spot. Justice will be done in the All NBA teams, which is merit based, and that also has a sample size worthy of judging merit.

The point is this is just a popularity contest, its who fans want to see. If you are a rockets fan the only emotion to have if Lin gets voted in is excitement. If you really do feel that this is all merit based, then instead of wasting your energy on complaining about Lin (who probably isnt going to make it anyway) you should be up in arms that Kobe is ahead of Harden or Pau is ahead of Asik and Parsons in the frontcourt

This only prove your fanbase is not crazy enough. Do you want your CP in the game? How many time you vote a day? If you have support like this, you DESERVE to be in the game. Only 'IF' a player was voted in.

Most likely he won't be starting in the ASG, but let's vote him in to have some fun.

But all those guys are in the discussion as amongst the best at their position. Lin this year is not even in the top 10. It'll be incredibly ugly if he gets in at this point and I'd be shocked if he even wants to play in it given his numbers right now.

Also, I mentioned it earlier but I do not think he can just decline an invitation if he does get voted in. I'm a big Lin fan but this will be incredibly awkward if he gets voted in. He's not even a top 10 PG this year. He'd be scrutinized and vilified far more than ever before.

With all this said if he goes on a tear from now until the ASG it might not look so bad but right now it'd be ridiculous to see him in the game.

Last time I checked, Kobe was leading the league in scoring.

You just said Lin deserves the all-star spot over Kobe.

No amount of arguments would be able to refute that stupidity.

You're really, really splitting hairs if you're trying to apply this logic to Lin. I'm one of those that wishes the all-star game represented the current season's best performers. However, each of those guys you named have a body of work that justifies an all-star appearance despite any lack of current season merit.

At any rate, sure, let the fans vote for who they want to vote for. Not everyone has to agree with it.

Even better - we aren't given two choices that everyone has to hopelessly choose between.

We can choose anyone we want.. based on merit.

I'm really not a fan of the infinite vote system though.

Apparently you did not witness the 34 points Kobe got....on 41 shots!!!! Like half of the teams attempts.

Apparently, one game determines whether a player deserves to be in an all-star or not.

I am not surprised that is what you think.
