dunking too much can injure him. I rather him do reverse layups all day alll night. Do you guys want another Yao?
I am more curious about his block, he was infamous for being a brutal blocker, among victims were tyson chandler, kevin love and dwade. Go to youtu be and type omer asik block, he put them on their ass. But now he seems content to just deflect the ball. Prime examples were his block on nate robinson and the last block on noah. He could have slammed them to the ground
dunking doesnt injure anyone, only if you land awkwardly after dunk. dunk does put stress on your knee, but he is tall and no one is telling him to jump 36 inches to dunk the ball like dwight howard. i dont think i care if he can make at least 50% of his reserve layups, but he doesnt.
it's not about asik blocking less shots, it's about asik being less brutal. those blocks i mentioned were not fouls Don't think so, as long as you don't hit opponents' body it's not a foul..
Maybe it is because its his first time a starter that he is slowly trying to get find his limit before injuring/fatiguing himself out. He may feel layups are easier on his body than dunks. Or maybe he is being told to do so by coaching staff... I have read theories on the coaches limiting Jeremy's lateral movement plays to recoup his knees... maybe they are taking a cautious approach with Asik too?
I reviewed the replays of his layups including his reverse layup and noticed often even when it's uncontested he is not looking at the ball or the basket. When he does he usually makes them. Looking away like that is a bad habit that hopefully the coaches can stop.
