Comparing the marginal cost of Fox News to say Islam is tricky unless one compares the marginal benefit as well. Last I checked, Fox News didn't lead a golden age in Iberia, or the Islamic golden age that saw the transmission of Euclid, Aristotle, and other assorted classics, therefore setting the foundation for Medieval Europe to emerge from the Dark Ages. but I guess they did bring Colbert, indirectly. it's a bit tricky, this one. No gods, no kings, and no Murdoch-owned media outlets seems an acceptable compromise.
No, one guy here is attributing the "inspiration" for Islamic terrorism to the Koran rather than the men who use the Koran as a tool in their brainwashing efforts.
This from the same dumbass that accused the media of perpetuating future shootings. You're so full of ****.
It is a fact that they do.The clinical psychologist who says that the media covering these types of attacks 24/7 causes copy cats has talked to countless mass murders and serial killers to date. He knows more about the minds of these sick individuals than anyone alive. His name is Dr. Park Dietz, and I've watched hours of his interviews online. See 1:40 into this video... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PezlFNTGWv4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Here is a documentary with him, where he talks in depth about speaking to some of the most notorious killers of our generation. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xeY0zeo2fkY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Educate yourself.
When it's FOX News you say this. Originally Posted by Svpernaut Wait, let me get this straight. I just proved that you were flat out wrong because the leading psychiatrist on mass murder contradicts your brilliance. So now in your defense you take a quote from a completely different story to try to make your argument stronger? Way to make a come back. Copy-cat crimes are proven in mental health study after study. Saying music, movies, video games or a TV station made you do something shows absolutely no correlation. Copy cat killers want the fame that the other killers receive, and that's why they do it. The 24/7 news coverage makes these assholes anti-heroes and infamous. We give them the fame they want, and that is why they murder these people. There's a reason the Virginia Tech shooter sent a manifesto to news channels. They want you to remember them. Mass murder without a gun? Andrea Yates ring a bell? The vast majority of serial killers don't use guns. More than 6,000 murders take place every year that aren't gun related, compared to 9,000 gun related. Most gun related murders are not by legally obtained firearms.
Equating the Quran and Fox is a little silly in my opinion. If you wanted to go down that route, the more apt comparison is a preacher or professor who interprets the Quran and passes their interpretation of its message on to listeners. In both cases the criminal who commits the crime (either terrorist or arsonist, respectively) is directly responsible and is subject to criminal action. However the inspiration (Preacher or Fox News), while not criminally liable, is morally wrong and, in my opinion, subject to consequences on a spiritual level.
I understand what you are saying, but the Quran itself also already contains value judgments and moral judgments. I would agree with you if the first "subjective" interpretation comes in by the preacher or professor, but as the Quran (like the Bible) is man-written, that is not the case. I see your point, though. I also know that obviously we are talking about two completely different things when we compare Fox and the Quran. My point was just that certain people who always say "it's not the 'source of the inspiration's fault'" when it comes to certain crimes inspired by a certain religion will be quick to say "it's the 'source of the inspiration's fault" when they are ideologically opposed to said source (Fox). I find that to be hypocritical.
Your point is made then. There are hippocrits on this forum. Now that it has been established, I think there should be discussion on how much blame there should be, if any, on FOX news.
This is what you do when you lose a debate. You fail to admit you are wrong and make it personal. It's ironic how you are doing just that.
