With Millsap, J Smith, Howard, Splitter, Al Jefferson all entering free agency? I'd rather take any one of those guys
What's delusional is someone that doesn't even know Iman Shumpert skill level. Do you watch the Knicks last year and how explosive he is?? He's a hell of a defender (probably the best at perimeter) as well and even play PG position...great handling the ball and attack ferociously just like Harden. He can also shoot. He has everything. He is one reason Linsanity took off along w/ Novak and Chandler. I doubt the Knicks will give him up along w/ Amare because that's how valuable he is. Is he worth max?? Who knows but i know he's a hell lot worth than Lin and Osik.
Morey failing to get Amare was one of the best things he did. Sometimes the things you don't do are more important the ones you do, that's the best way I can describe Morey and how we failed to get some guys that turned out to be terrible players a few years down the line.
Great defender, extremely athletic -- and yes, was great next to Lin during Linsanity. But I don't know where you get the idea he can play PG and shoot. If he could, Linsanity wouldn't have happened because they would have cut Lin. He can't run the point and he's very raw offensively. No reason why he can't improve, but he's not worth more than Lin or Asik. Knicks were considering including him in the Nash trade, after Toronto c*ckblocked offering Landry Fields, but Nash took the Lakers offer. I would take Parsons over Shump. Parsons is a good all-around player, which Shump isn't yet.
No one is blaming Amar'e for his contract, but his contract is something teams DO have to take into consideration since it'd impact cap space and possibly luxury tax. That's how one evaluates ROI (return on investment). After all, if this were LeBron James available for $65M for the next 3 years, I bet all 29 teams would jump on it. As for his knees - it's not that Knicks wouldn't insure them; it's that his knees are NOT insurable. Again, an added risk.
Amare is just a man with a contract at this point... His knees are going to get worst and he's just 1 of those bigs that relied on raw athleticism thus will never be able to cope as a Tim Duncan. Knicks will give for free to the sucker that wants to pay Amare the rest of his contract... Once it's over Amare will not be an NBA player again.
+1. Shumpert is still young so there's no reason to believe he wouldn't continue to grow/improve his game; but as of now I'd take Parsons over Shump as well.
Yeah, I get that... I just meant he's unmoveable because of the fault of a FO, not because he's a bum. I would take him for vet min -- more even. But why in God's name did the Knicks give him the max, uninsurable knees, when the Suns medical staff basically predicted this would happen in Year 3?
Amare’s a nice guy, but I don’t want him on the Rockets. He clogs the paint with Tyson Chandler, so I’d imagine that he could clog it with Asik too. And that’s even beyond the very very concerning injury issues. Thinking about it, I wonder if Amare worked so well because the Suns never had a dominant center, and to be honest I don’t know if he can work with a strong player at the 3 as well; part of the chemistry issues with the Knicks last season is because Amare’s skillsets basically crowded BOTH Tyson and Melo’s. Whenever Amare was out, Tyson and Melo was stronger to a point that it didn’t matter that Amare was out of the lineup. Granted, part of that’s because Melo does insane work as a ‘stretch 4’. GIVEN that, Amare on the Rockets I think would start causing chemistry issues with both Asik and Parsons; even knowing he might be a nice pnr partner for Lin and Harden. Once you factor the injury history in, tbh, I’d rather have Asik and Smith develop into better pick-and-roll players and hope that DMo figures out defense (maybe gain some more muscle), rather than gamble on Amare.

It's because the Knicks couldn't get anyone else (of All-Star caliber). In 2010 the Knicks wanted to make a run for LBJ so they cleared cap space by sending their PF David Lee to GSW in a sign-n-trade. But then LBJ (along with Wade & Bosh) chose Miami and the Knicks needed someone at PF but no one wanted to go to NY. Amar'e was the only one willing to, and he seemed an ideal choice since he had great success with D'Antoni's back in Phoenix. In all fairness, Amar'e did live up to his contract... up until they traded for Melo.
