He was tearing it up because we gave them the opporunity to do so, while we kept Luck and the 8th best passing offense in the league in check. Wade's defense always does this. The same way that Chris Johnson tore us up earlier this season yet we still handled the Titans. AP might have 175 yards rushing, but I'd bet money that he won't get more than 1 TD. And their passing offense will obviously have trouble with us. We'll limit the long runs and tighten up in the red zone.
Ballard did have a nice game. There's a huge difference, though. Andrew Luck doesn't play for the Vikings. Neither does Reggie Wayne, TY Hilton or Donnie Avery. The Vikings have no passing game at all. None. You could play 11 in the box and Ponder will still struggle.
My question is looking back at his college highlights,...he looked good, but this is a case of him making it look almost too easy now compared to then..How has he made the jump? He always was regarded as someone who could do well against the run, and pass and honestly I would have been impressed with like 7 sacks from the 3-4 DE, but he looked almost mechanical in college while indeed showing some athletics for his size...honest,y, I don't care., he looks as if this is what you can expect going forward. Not complaining
I think people are forgetting that EVERY team has made Ponder beat them, and stack gazillion guys in the box. As a result, Peterson has been a boom-or-bust back this year, similar to Barry Sanders in his prime. So the key to containing Peterson is basically open field tackling on the few carriers where he get past the first line of defense. Manning and Quin better live up to their designation as "safeties."
Well the Texans have allowed the fewest rushing TD's in the league. It's time to live up to that billing.
Boom or bust is a CJ Spiller or Jamaal Charles. Since when was boom or bust 100 combined yards in 12 out of the 14 games? You're right that tackling is key, probably gang tackling more so, because he was able to get 86 yards on the 49ers who have the best ILB pair in the league. LZ works for thesidelineview and I'll use this recent tweet for why I think it has to be gang tackling. "Yards After Contact: 1. Adrian Peterson - 874 2. Doug Martin - 674 3. Alfred Morris - 608 4"
JJ Watt makes everything look easy. <object id="otvPlayer" width="400" height="268"> <param name="movie" value="http://cdn.abclocal.go.com/static/flash/embeddedPlayer/swf/otvEmLoader.swf?version=fw1000&station=ktrk§ion=&mediaId=8929083&parentId=null&cdnRoot=http://cdn.abclocal.go.com&webRoot=http://abclocal.go.com&configPath=/util/&site=" ></param> <param name="allowScriptAccess
Boom and bust has never been about overall yardage. Just the way the yards come by. Chris Johnson, Barry Sanders are notable elite boom or bust RBs. Foster, Emmit Smith, Terrell Davis are notable elite conventional RBs in terms of always getting 3-7 yards per run.
I can understand it not being about overall yardage and rather how the yards are gained. But I can't see how he's the same boom or bust type as a Chris Johnson when his floor is so high. He's got the speed and shiftiness to create space and he can physically handle the 20+ carries a game without becoming a 3ypc grinder.
Ponder didn't steal sacks, give the man credit, he denied Watt those sacks thanks to Watt going low (THANK THE NFL FOR ENFORCING SAFE FOOTBALL) and smart play. That being said, due to circumstances he will still get his shot at getting another 2 or 3.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8784315/adrian-peterson-worthy-mvp-award [rquoter]Defensive player of the year: Denver linebacker Von Miller. This is an extremely tight race between Miller, Houston's J.J. Watt and San Francisco's Aldon Smith. All three deserve it. All three are impact performers at premier positions who can do more than one thing really well. But Miller, to me, is the most complete of the three. He joins Dallas outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware as the only players since 1994 with at least 15 sacks, 25 tackles for a loss and five forced fumbles in a season. Miller is third in the NFL in sacks (17.5), second in tackles for a loss (26) and tied for third in forced fumbles (six). He also has an interception return for a touchdown. He is the centerpiece of the Broncos' defense, has improved his run defense and is a handful when rushing the edge.[/rquoter] Watt is 1st in sacks, 1st in tackles for a loss. Watt only has 4 forced fumbles to Miller's 6, but has 2 recoveries to Miller's 0. Watt also has way more pass deflections than Miller and more tackles. I don't understand some people.
