If we're trading for Cousins, I'm almost certain, Parsons and Asik will most likely be part of the deal, given that they fit the kings starting lineup perfectly. Not to mention Asik and Parsons are producing well relative to their contracts.
An NBA center who shoots 41% from the field and averages 17 PPG as a first scoring option on a bad team? And as a bonus, is also such a nutcase that he makes Royce White look like the Dalai Lama? Yeah that's a real game-changer right there, ClutchFans. Championship assured.
Is DeMarcus Cousins a dude who's gowanns to be all that under the right coach and such? Asik gives us....what? 10 and 13? Cousins....17 and 10? 41% shooting....as a center. And we already have Royce White's situation. He's got all the talent, but he suffers from dumbass-itis.
To give Rockets fans an idea of how bad Boogie Cousins is: Okay, like, you know how Lin or Harden will pass the ball to Asik, and Asik catches it and then does...a thing with it? Tries to lay it up? Sort of throws it at the backboard hoping it will go in? And you know, as Rockets fans, how frustrating that is to watch, right? Okay like....even THAT dude shoots 49% from the field. Cousins: 41%
It's probably not possible, but if we could package a trade that didn't include Asik, would be the best scenario. Cousins starting at the 4, moving to the 5 when Asiks on the bench. Basically means Cousins can take time to be "groomed" into our future franchise 5, learn a few things from Asik in terms of effort, heart, defence, rebounding etc Smith, donuts, delfino, morris/Jones, pick for Cousins, junk????
I think people are looking too much into DeMarcus Cousins stats. The guy plays on a dysfunctional team. What do you expect? Instead look at him as a draft pick. His scouting report is still similar to that of him out of the draft. Except his rebounding is very good, and he's 22 now(equivalent of college senior). Would I rather have Kevin Love or LaMarcus Aldridge? Sure. But I don't think we have enough assets for either player, and even if we do, it would gut the entire team. Dwight Howard coming? Nope. Among players that are actually plausible to obtain, Cousins is among the top of my list.
Yeah Asik would be part of it for sure, but I'd think they'd want Patterson instead of Parsons, given his combination of youth and solid defense on bigs. I wouldn't mind sending off Asik/Patterson/Aldrich + a Rookie(probably Jones), for Cousins/Hayes and one of their many guards, maybe Fredette or bring back Brooks. I see alot of people down on Cousins', but I think the whole allure of him coming here is that he'll be surrounded by a better organization that will help him mature, and develop his skills (McHale & CD), not to mention he'll be surrounded by unselfish teammates and Alpha dog who he can respect(Harden).
Well both are still relatively young, and compliment the kings "foundational" players in Robinson and Evans. So if the kings see value in that, then who cares. I like Parsons, but I think he's replaceable. Although if the Kings would prefer a rookie over Parsons then by all means... they can can have one or two the rook(s).
Cousins is only shooting 40 percent 'cuz that offense is dysfunctional and have no playmakers that can get him shots under the basketball and instead have him settle for jumpers. Cousins is a 20/10 guy in a Rocket uniform. And more importantly, he can run plays in the post, something Patterson and Asik can't do!
Cousins' talent is of course intriguing. But adding a guy like that to a young team which does not have a vocal leader on the roster would be a major mistake, IMO. Some will point to Zach Randolph, but Z-Bo didn't really grow up until his 8th or 9th season in the league.
Sheeeeeyt this again? Cousins took a step back this year because he's got no work ethic and his attitude sucks. I don't want him at anything other than a super bargain bin discount. No way I'd give up Parsons, Lin, or Asik for him, for example. Would he currently be an upgrade over our PFs, yeah, sure. But at what cost? Is he really that much better than Greg Smith?
I completely agree. Asik has done nothing but improve and still has tons of upside without the headaches of immaturity. He will definitely be gone in a deal for Cousins. Sure we have the youngest team in the nba, but we don't act like it and have avoided alot of the issues young teams usually have. This move would be a step back. Asik's potential isn't too far behind what Cousins would likely develop into. Maybe a few more ppg for Cousins, but Asik plays as hard as anyone. Asik's effort in game reminds me of a Chuck Hayes/Landry in terms of his effort.
Asik doesn't have anything near the potential that Cousins has. I really don't see Asik's offensive game developing a whole lot. Cousins is a top flight prospect who is only 22. McHale would set his ass straight and he would have no way of saying he's the best player on this team like he would the Kings unless he proves himself to be the best in which case I would be ecstatic.
I agree with the Cousins-skepticism to some degree. At this point, he is far from a proven elite player, but is instead still a high level "prospect." As such, I would pay "prospect price" for him, not "proven star" price. This means that, unlike, for example, a scenario of a Dwight Howard acquisition (with a promise that he'd stay), I wouldn't give up so much of my assets (in terms of players, draft picks, and future cap space) that I am essentially putting all my eggs in the one DeMarcus basket so that I'd be screwed if he doesn't turn into an elite player. Now, if Morey thinks similarly, the question is whether any of the other 28 teams in the league would be willing to offer a package more to the Kings' liking (maybe somebody is more confident about Cousins or more desperate to make a gamble).
