This is just wrong. It's hard to believe someone who considers himself a professional would act so heinously. Taunting someone struggling with emotional issues is cruel. It seems readily apparent that Innes also also so mental health issues of his own. At a minimum, he has some severe self-images issues -- the only way these types can feel better about themselves is to bring others down. Further, this exchange shows him to be a tad OCD. Lastly, he clearly has "boundary issues" unable to determine between acceptable conduct and non-acceptable. For a professional, this is the former, no question.

    trade chip.
telling him to **** off will result in wasting a draft pick for nothing. if the rockets stay by his side, THEN if he does play well for a game or two, the rockets might be able to trade him for some future first round pick. its all in the plan.:grin:

Didn't look to see if anyone mentioned this, but 12/21/2012 end of the world scared Royce and kept him from doing his job. Now the world goes on being homeless is his main concern and working is the resolution

White acknowledged that he had mental illness.

I like his skills and his intelligence, but maybe it's time for the Rockets to cut him.

    Too risky.

Here's my armchair-psychiatrist take on the whole thing:

I could be wrong, but it sure seems like Royce's insistence on making sure everything was perfectly arranged to minimize possible future anxiety while playing with the Rockets was probably due to present anxiety. The young man left the comfort-zone bubble he's been living in and is having to adapt to all sort of new things going on around him, only so many of which he can control. To most of us, that's difficult enough, but we plod our way through it as best we can. To Royce, it quickly (and probably unexpectedly) became impossible to deal with so much change all at once, and he retreated into his shell. He's only just not getting comfortable enough to come out.

All the rest -- the tweeting, the demands, etc. -- were all just window dressing. Maybe it was just subconsciously, but the kid was freaking out big time, and his only way of addressing it was to say that the team hadn't made the situation comfortable enough for him yet. Sure, it was an idiotic way of handling things, but it was the best he could do at the time, because saying, "I'm scared to f#$king death!" would probably have been worse.

I've been thinking something like that too. I'd really like to see him succeed. But I think he has a lot to prove in terms of drive, determination and skills. Thought he showed a lot of potential at summer league, and that he fit well with the team. Now not so sure. But would like to see him pull it together. Withholding judgment for now. But he's going to have to work really hard to deserve a place on this team. He should realize how lucky he was to be drafted by THIS team, with this roster. And work his butt off.

As a professional psychologist, I think what you are saying is 100% correct. I think it goes without saying that he was feeling crippling anxiety and that is why he seems to have been holed up at his place for awhile now. That said, how he dealt with it was 100% counter productive and destructive, and he seems to have no insight into his own problems or the best approach to beating them. He has clearly had terrible care up to now or he has (more likely) successfully avoided ever getting real care for his mental health problems over the years. He is not unlike Vietnam Veterans I regularly see in my own practice with severe PTSD who isolated themselves from the rest of society when they returned home from Vietnam and now (40 years later) are completely incapacitated. The only way to prevent that from happening is to face what you are afraid of.

Morey made an interesting point that with every change in White's circumstances, there has been a period of adjustment and instability. Once White got his bearings he was stable and productive. I like that the Rockets are taking the long view about this and I am glad to hear that White hasn't given up, either.

Or it could be an attempt at some damage control...either way, no progress without struggle.

I'm encouraged, have hope, but not setting expectations. If it works out, great. If not, not the first time a 16th pick didn't pan out regardless of mental issues or not.

Let's just support him, and see if things can work out. Royce has unique talents and some areas he really needs to work on.

There is absolutely ZERO risk for the Rockets to keep him, unless Dwight Howard wants to be a Rocket next year and need the extra capspace. Even then, the Rockets would just dump White along with a pick to someone else.

The Rockets are treating this like a long term "development." After all, it's no different from Morris and Smith being in the D-League last year. No need to hurry.

If Royce ever plays on the court, I'm sure his opponents will accomodate him and let him score without guarding him. Not. Then Royce will tweet out #AnxietyTroopers #MyOpponentsGuardandFoulMe #MyOpponentsNeedToAccomodateMyLackofGame

Yeah, I don't get why everyone is saying the Rockets should get rid of him and that it's too risky. The risk was drafting him, when the Rockets could have gotten somebody else without off the court issues. Now that he's on the team there is nothing to lose by keeping him on the roster, he has a very low rookie contract and is a long term development type of guy. Hopefully things work out, but when you cut him lose your not gaining anything and loosing a high potential player.

i'm thinking the rockets are letting him just stew and sit and think and realize that without them pretty much his nba career is over unless he plays for the globetrotters. Europe is out of the question because he would have to fly to get there unless he takes a boat....
